Chapter 6
Chapter 6
It was a bright, sunny afternoon in the CEO’s office of the Fu Group.
I sat across from Fu Jing, gathered my courage, and said, “Let’s break up.”
Fu Jing was reading through some documents, half of his face bathed in the sunlight, looking breathtakingly handsome.
Hearing my words, he looked up from his papers with a lukewarm expression, lightly arching an eyebrow at me.
“If I recall correctly, just last night you were insisting on marrying me.”
His gaze was that of a refined gentleman, yet it held a trace of savage intensity that felt like it could strip a person bare. It triggered a sudden, scorching memory of last night, making my ears burn involuntarily.
The sensation lasted only a fleeting moment, passing so quickly it felt like an illusion.
I cleared my throat. Unable to think of a better excuse, I offered a simple five-word explanation: “We’re just not a match.”
After studying me carefully, the corners of Fu Jing’s lips curled upward. “Fine. Accompany me to a banquet, and I’ll agree to your request.”
Seeing me remain seated without moving, Fu Jing capped his fountain pen and struck where it hurt. “There will be handsome guys there.”
“Deal.”
At seven that evening, the banquet was in full swing, filled with the clinking of glasses and lively chatter.
I leaned on Fu Jing’s arm, instantly becoming the focal point of the room.
After all, the rumors surrounding Fu Jing over the years had been complicated, and everyone was curious to see what kind of sacred being his White Moonlight actually was.
Fu Jing moved through the crowd of business partners with practiced ease, taking me along with him.
I kept a smile on my face, appearing to socialize, but in reality, my mind had already drifted far away.
There were so many handsome men… each with their own unique charm.
The more I looked, the warmer my cheeks became. My lips curled up unconsciously, and my eyes sparkled with delight.
I felt like a fish finally released back into the ocean.
Fu Jing didn’t bother me, allowing me to move around freely.
“Hello, Sister. My name is Bai Qiaoqiao.”
After adding my thirty-eighth contact of the night, I encountered the first girl of the evening.
She wore a white dress and carried the innocent air of someone new to society. Her eyes, clear as an autumn pool, were filled with warmth and enthusiasm.
“I’m a minor actress. I came here to expand my network. It’s truly a great honor to meet you.”
She was so beautiful it was hard to look away.
“Sister, this string of Old Mountain Sandalwood must be very expensive, right?”
Her sudden approach brought the scent of gardenias to my nose.
In the next second, she had taken my wrist in her hand, gently stroking the beads.
I snapped back to reality, my face flushing slightly. “Um, yes. My fiancé gave it to me.”
“Your fiancé is really rich,” she said, lowering her head to reveal her fair, slender neck as she rummaged through her handbag.
Suddenly, she pulled out a hand-woven cord and leaned closer. “Unlike me. I can only offer Sister something I braided myself as a meeting gift. Please don’t be angry.”
The hand-woven cord was exquisitely crafted; it was clear a lot of effort had gone into it.
She unhurriedly tied it around my wrist. While her head was still bowed, she whispered, “So, would Sister be willing to give me her contact information?”
“…”
After the banquet ended, I sat in the garden listening to my best friend mock me over the phone.
“Hahahahaha! Don’t tell me you got hit on by a girl?”
“Shut up!” I covered the receiver. “I don’t care. I want her to play my female lead.”
“My dear heiress, the last starlet you promoted already ran off with a man.”
I replied with total seriousness, “No, she’s different. She looks very kind-hearted.”
