Heart Stealer - Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Late at night.
I sat on the dining table, tugging at Fu Jing’s tie. My face was flushed, and I was covered in a light sheen of sweat.
He pinched my chin, carefully examining the wound on my face. “Does it hurt?”
“No.”
He leaned in close to my ear and whispered, “Don’t get into fights with people next time. If you’re feeling wronged, just tell me. I’ll give you whatever you want.”
I mumbled a response and leaned my head against his shoulder. “Then let me say one more thing.”
“Speak.”
I shyly toyed with his tie. “Can I… kiss you?”
“Why didn’t you ask the last time you kissed me?”
“I was drunk then. It was all a blur, and I didn’t get to savor the taste.” My eyes sparkled. “I’ve never kissed a handsome guy before. I want to be more serious this time.”
Fu Jing’s dark gaze swept over my lips. “You can. What else do you want to do?”
I lunged at him excitedly. “Kiss first, talk later.”
The wind was fierce that night, and raindrops hammered against the window like a rapid drumbeat.
In the heat of the night, my whispers occasionally spilled out: “Mr. Fu, you taste so good-”
Fu Jing let out a sharp breath. “Be quiet and focus.”
…
The next day, Fu Jing was preparing for a business trip.
I squatted beside his suitcase and asked, “Can you really not take me with you?”
“The schedule is too tight. I can’t guarantee you’ll get enough sleep every day.”
Recalling his stamina from the previous night, my face turned as red as a ripe persimmon. I slowly wrapped myself in a blanket and retreated to the sofa.
After finishing his packing, Fu Jing walked over and pulled me into an embrace. “While I’m away, keep your eyes to yourself.”
“Fine.”
He thought for a moment and added, “Women are off-limits too.”
“Mm.”
I used to be perfectly fine on my own, but having suddenly entered the honeymoon phase of a relationship, I found it strangely difficult to adjust to his absence.
Late at night, I sat in front of my screen, slowly working on my manuscript.
Suddenly, a notification popped up in the bottom corner of the screen: *Fu Jing Spotted on Overseas Date with Rising Starlet Bai Qiaoqiao.*
My heart tightened as I clicked on it.
In the dead of night, a man and a woman were seen entering a hotel with their arms around each other.
The next morning, clear shots of Fu Jing and Bai Qiaoqiao’s faces were captured as they left the hotel one after the other.
Someone had analyzed the close-up photos of Bai Qiaoqiao-on her right wrist, she wore a single Old Mountain Sandalwood Bead strung on a red cord.
Meanwhile, the string on Fu Jing’s wrist was missing.
Public opinion exploded instantly, with everyone speculating that Fu Jing might have moved on to a new flame.
Before I could call him, his phone call came through.
As soon as I picked up, he got straight to the point: “It’s nothing. Don’t overthink it. I’m having someone handle it right now.”
I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted, my heart finally settling. “Okay. I’m going to sleep then.”
“Qianqian?”
“What?”
“You’re not angry, are you?”
“No.”
Even though I wasn’t angry, I was still more or less frustrated.
The photos of them entering the hotel were blurry, and the man’s back didn’t quite look like Fu Jing’s.
Photos of two people leaving a hotel separately were hardly convincing evidence.
However, the majority of the uninformed public was convinced that where there was smoke, there was fire.
The stories were being spun quite convincingly. Someone even posted a medical certificate for Bai Qiaoqiao, claiming that Fu Jing had gone abroad specifically to accompany her for medical treatment.
A few days later, something even more concerning happened.
My period was late.
I was sitting in the bathroom, staring blankly at two bright red lines on a pregnancy test, when Bai Qiaoqiao sent me a photo of Fu Jing’s profile.
“It’s my birthday tomorrow. He’s making a birthday cake for me right now.”
At the same time, she dropped an overseas address, flaunting her victory: “I’m inviting you to come and have some cake.”
The fire that had been building up in my heart for days finally exploded. I booked a flight and headed straight for the hotel where Fu Jing was staying.
After crossing several time zones, I stood beneath the hotel in the local dead of night, wrapped in a thin trench coat, and made the call.
“Qianqian,” Fu Jing’s voice was as steady as ever.
I rubbed my face, which had been chilled by the wind. “Come down. I have something to say to you.”
There was a pause on the other end of the line before he suddenly hung up.
A minute later, Fu Jing strode out of the hotel. He quickly locked onto my figure and walked toward me.
