Chapter 14
I stared at Zhou Heng and forced a smile.
“Did you enjoy it?”
He reached out, trying to hug me, frantically shaking his head in denial:
“It’s really not what you think. Let me go home and explain to you-”
Expressionless, I pushed him away.
He was at a loss, his knees slightly bent.
Zhu Wanwan rushed over and shoved me aside, standing protectively in front of him like a mother hen guarding her chick:
“What are you doing! He’s begging you like this, why won’t you let it go!”
They stood side by side, as if I were the third wheel.
“I’m the one who’s going to have his child! The foundation he’s worked so hard to build over the years-should he just hand it over because you can’t have children? Have you ever thought about how he feels?”
She pressed closer, her tone sharp:
“You only ever demand his loyalty, demand his understanding! Have you ever tried to understand him?!
“If you loved him half as much as I do, you would have let us be together long ago, you would have divorced him ages ago!”
I looked up at Zhou Heng.
“Is that so? Do you think so too?”
He stared at me, his expression sorrowful, opening his mouth but unable to say a word.
Zhu Wanwan seemed even more emboldened.
She lifted her chin, her tone growing more triumphant:
“I know him better than you do, old woman!”
“Flaunting that marriage certificate in front of me? Ha, so what? What can you do?”
“A loveless marriage like yours is nothing but a grave! Whether you’re a golden hen, a silver hen, or a mud hen, only the one who can lay eggs is-”
“Smack! Smack!”
She didn’t get to finish.
I raised my hand and slapped her twice, clean and hard.
“Was I talking to you?”
