Good Night, Mr. Ghost - Chapter 45
Miss Rabbit hopped away cheerfully.
Jiang Chenyi looked at the graceful figure of Meng Loudi and said, “Will they really be protected, Mr. Ghost?”
A faint smile played on the young man’s lips, as if teasing him.
Meng Loudi tilted his head, hands in pockets, and after a moment of thought, replied, “They will be, because your name is on it. If any supernatural being with that photo still encounters trouble, I’ll step in.”
He pressed a hand to his lips and added, “After all, it’s a photo of us, isn’t it? If people like it, well, I’ll be quite happy.”
His lips curled into a smile, exuding a peculiar charm, as if he was both delighted and fulfilled.
Jiang’s heart skipped a beat, unsure of what he felt. Perhaps it was a sense of danger after being claimed by someone?
But, well, he couldn’t quite figure it out…
Mr. Ghost didn’t give him time to sort through his feelings. The man grabbed his hand and led him straight down to the company’s cafeteria.
Ba Lin’s cafeteria was free and exclusively for employees. There were only two rules for dining: no loud noises and no wasting food.
Jiang Chenyi picked a chicken rice bowl for himself, while Mr. Ghost chose a beef rice bowl. These days, they would choose different flavors and then share them.
As they ate, Jiang naturally took a piece of beef from Mr. Ghost’s bowl and asked, “So, are we working late tonight?”
Mr. Ghost paused, looking at Jiang with a slightly aggrieved expression. “Why do we have to work late?”
The young man bit his spoon and said, “Because there are still some things left unfinished, aren’t there?”
Brownish had mentioned helping Meng Loudi with some tasks, but it seemed there was still a bit left undone.
Mr. Ghost sulkily scooped a large spoonful from Jiang’s bowl and muttered, “It doesn’t matter. It’s not that important. We can just do it tomorrow, can’t we?”
“Loudi-be good.” Jiang propped his chin on his hand and offered a spoonful of rice to Meng Loudi.
Mr. Ghost ate it and said, “It can wait until tomorrow, right? Tonight, I want to watch a movie and play games with Chenyi.”
The night was theirs alone.
His expression was so innocent, and his dark eyes were filled with anticipation.
Jiang Chenyi sighed, “Alright.”
After all, it wasn’t anything urgent, right?
They finished their meal and left Ba Lin Tower under the envious gazes of those who had to work late.
Brownish lay on her desk, bored, flipping through files while glancing at her computer screen. “Wow, Mr. Chief left with the chief’s wife~ Poor Brownish still has to work here.”
Bai Lu sat at a nearby desk, typing away. “Well, Mr. Meng has done a great job, but there’s still a lot for us to handle. Maybe one day we can rely on him completely. After all, he’s that historical figure…”
Brownish rolled her eyes. “What are you thinking? How could we rely on him completely? Mr. Chief would love to spend every moment with handsome Chenyi!”
Expecting Meng Loudi to take on all responsibilities? Might as well expect Brownish to stop digging.
Speaking of which, Brownish’s savings seemed to be enough, and the photos had sold. Hmm, maybe she could buy a little house with a big lawn where she could dig to her heart’s content.
Miss Rabbit happily started organizing files.
Her phone suddenly rang. The sales director picked it up and glanced at it. “Hmm, it’s the technical director. What’s going on? That’s unusual.”
Normally, they wouldn’t contact each other without reason.
Answering the call, Brownish’s expression turned serious. “Really? It’s that serious? Oh my, you both couldn’t…”
Mr. Chief returned home with Jiang.
Having already eaten, Jiang chatted with his parents’ memorial tablets before settling in the living room with Meng Loudi to watch a movie.
This time, they chose a famous gory horror film.
Jiang snuggled on the couch with chips and popcorn, watching with Mr. Ghost.
“Wow, oh my gosh, that’s terrifying.” The young man was startled by a sudden ghostly figure, nearly jumping into Mr. Ghost’s arms.
Once the heart-pounding scene passed, Jiang relaxed and continued munching on snacks.
Meng Loudi watched his jumpy lover, chuckling softly, and said, “Don’t worry, it’s all fake.”
“Of course I’m not scared, just startled. By the way, supernatural beings aren’t really that scary, right?”
Jiang looked at Mr. Ghost, offering him a chip.
Meng Loudi didn’t care much for snacks, usually only eating them when with Jiang Chenyi.
He swallowed the chip and said, “Most are quite clean. Only a few make themselves that disgusting.”
They discussed supernatural beings.
“By the way, I haven’t encountered anything bad.”
“Of course not, because I’m here to protect you,” Mr. Ghost said tenderly.
No matter what Jiang Chenyi might attract, he would always protect him.
This person was his reason to restrain himself, his reason to live well, his most precious bond.
Jiang Chenyi wasn’t sure if he was serious, but it was heartwarming.
“Mr. Ghost, do you study how to make me happy every day?”
“Hmm?” The man made a questioning sound.
“Why are you so good at sweet-talking?” The young man’s face flushed, eyes sparkling as he looked at him.
“Because it’s Chenyi. I want Chenyi to always be by my side, happy and fulfilled.” Mr. Ghost leaned closer, his voice a bit husky.
They were sweetly whispering love to each other.
With a loud crash, the glass of the floor-to-ceiling window shattered.
A large bird with blue feathers tumbled inside, struggling to get up amidst the shards.
It looked around, seemingly disoriented.
The bird blinked, sensing an intense chill.
The icy aura made its feathers stand on end as it looked in the direction of the gaze, meeting the eyes of the young man with long black hair.
The bird felt suffocated in an instant.
Oh no, oh no!
Mr. Chief’s gaze was like he was about to slaughter it on the spot.
Meng Loudi was so furious he almost revealed his ghostly form.
That damned bird!
The atmosphere was so perfect just now, so perfect!
I’m so angry I could explode!!!
Jiang Chenyi covered his mouth, maintaining a calm expression as he looked away. Once his face cooled down, he turned back to the stunned bird and asked, “Who are you?”
This bird, nearly a meter tall and resembling an eagle, must be a demon, right?
Its feathers were a lovely pale blue.
Jiang Chenyi’s voice warmed the room.
Mr. Ghost’s gaze softened slightly as he asked, “What’s the matter?”
The gentle voice contrasted sharply with his grim expression.
Officer Qing Sui looked at Mr. Chief, his face pale, yet speaking gently.
Swallowing hard, perhaps he had committed some offense, interrupting Mr. Chief’s courtship.
But he couldn’t run now.
The blue-feathered bird transformed into a young man, kneeling and trembling. “Reporting to Mr. Chief, an unexpected incident occurred. We couldn’t handle it and must ask for your help!”
Jiang Chenyi looked at the young man. Hmm, he seemed to be one of Ba Lin’s upper management.
In front of Jiang Chenyi, Mr. Ghost, always the Mr. Nice Guy, asked softly, “What’s wrong? Explain clearly.”
Qing Sui knelt and said, “A few days ago, we discovered an abandoned house on a mountain, about a hundred years old. Initially, it seemed fine, but demons reported that something inside was eating people, demons, and ghosts. It has already devoured several small demons. Today, Huang Bu’er and I went to investigate, but we couldn’t defeat it and had to flee.”
Mr. Ghost stroked his chin.
Qing Sui prostrated himself. “I’m sorry, Mr. Chief.”
Jiang half-knelt, placing a hand on Mr. Ghost’s shoulder. “Loudi?”
Even two officers couldn’t handle this supernatural being, so it must be quite troublesome.
And with lives lost, they definitely needed to check it out, right?
Mr. Ghost looked up at him, eyes shimmering like a lake.
“Do you want me to take a look, Chenyi?”
“Go ahead. After all, you are their Mr. Chief, aren’t you?”
“Yes, you’re right. I need to protect those under my care.” Meng Loudi blinked.
Jiang Chenyi sensed something and said, “I’ll go with you. Don’t think of leaving me behind.”
Mr. Ghost chuckled, holding the young man’s hand. “I wouldn’t dare leave you. We’ll go together.”
Who knows what might happen in the time he’s away from Chenyi?
He would never allow Chenyi’s life to be threatened, so he needed Chenyi by his side.
Even with the jade ring, even if he could be summoned.
But in the brief moment he left the jade ring, any supernatural being could harm his fragile lover.
Until he was sure it was truly safe, he wouldn’t let his lover be in danger.
Qing Sui lay on the ground, quietly relieved.
He was so afraid Mr. Chief would refuse.
If Mr. Chief refused to check it out tonight, they would have no choice, right?
They’d have to endure the torment of waiting for his permission.
Then take him to the scene.
“So, Qing Sui, you know the way, right?” Mr. Ghost looked at the bird demon on the ground.
“Yes, I’ll lead the way for you two!”
So, they dressed, and Meng Loudi, holding the young man’s hand, walked out the door, with Qing Sui quickly following.
Mr. Ghost glanced at the shattered glass. “Make sure to have this cleaned up. It’s unsightly.”
Qing Sui shivered. “Yes!”
He had shattered Mr. Chief’s window. How terrible!
The group reached the yard, and Qing Sui said, “Let me carry you two there? Huang Bu’er is still waiting for me, and I’m really worried he won’t hold out.”
“No need, just lead the way.” Mr. Ghost didn’t even look at him, instead reaching out to lift Jiang.
Jiang Chenyi was startled, clinging tightly to his neck.
Meng Loudi looked at him, his face bathed in moonlight, a soft glow surrounding him. As he gazed down, his eyes held something obscure.
A bit dangerous, yet very tempting.
Jiang heard the man’s voice, “Chenyi, have you heard of riding the clouds?”
