Chapter 2
The blood in my veins ran backward.
My head exploded with a buzzing sound.
I shouted sternly, “Jiang Ye, shut up!”
Jiang Ye fell silent.
The atmosphere plunged into a deathly silence.
I clutched the bedsheet, my mind racing, trying to figure out where exactly things had gone wrong.
Was it because Jiang Ye was abandoned by his biological parents at the age of twelve, causing his psychological development to go astray?
Or was it because of my inexperience, failing to guide him properly through his adolescence while raising him?
…Chaotic thoughts filled my mind.
Before I noticed, Jiang Ye had already laid his head on my lap.
His entire face was buried in my abdomen.
“Sis1.”
He reverted to calling me sis, stubbornly refusing to call me godmother.
“Just the two of us, it’s always been just the two of us, isn’t that good?”
No, it’s not.
If I were 22, facing a 20-year-old wolf cub2, speaking to me like this, I’d fall in love instantly.
But I’m 30 now.
And Jiang Ye is not some unfamiliar wolf cub; he’s my bestie’s son, and the godson I’ve raised for eight years.
Footnote:
- Sis(姐姐): While literally meaning ‘older sister,’ in this context, it’s a term of intimate address used by the son towards the woman who raised him. It acknowledges their deep, non-blood-related bond but is heavily charged with ambiguity, flirtation, and a transgressive sexual undertone. It highlights a forbidden desire that challenges their established familial roles, making the address both familiar and deeply unsettling.
- Wolf Cub(小狼狗): In Chinese slang, this term refers to a younger man who is intensely devoted, loyal, and often passionately possessive towards an older woman. He is typically handsome, charming, and can be a bit wild or dominant in a desirable way. It’s a popular romantic archetype, implying a strong, almost puppy-like loyalty combined with a masculine, sometimes dominant, edge, making him a highly attractive and sought-after partner for women.
