Godmother, Please Love Me - Chapter 17
This is a very simple story.
But outsiders have always exaggerated it.
Eight years ago, when I first started my internship at Jiang Group, Ms. Zheng had already withdrawn from the management team.
The HR department only knew that I was an outstanding student who had long been sponsored by the chairman’s family, but they didn’t know which of the couple had extended the hand.
Naturally, rumors quickly turned into-
Mr. Jiang had sponsored me for fourteen years.
Back then, the rumors were not so outrageous.
Until the divorce scandal between the chairman and his spouse intensified, every time Mr. Jiang saw me, his face would be cold and unpleasant, and every now and then he would call me in for three or four hours.
Sometimes it was a scolding, sometimes just a simple punishment to stand.
Even worse, he would sometimes hurl humiliating words at me without restraint.
I was not afraid.
Because in my childhood, I had heard even more unpleasant things.
If this could help Mr. Jiang vent his emotions and make it a little less difficult for Ms. Zheng during the divorce and division of assets, that was enough.
“But I didn’t expect the rumors would soon take on a different form.”
“Everyone said that after I was sponsored by Mr. Jiang, I became greedy for wealth, got involved in their relationship, and was the reason for the chairman and his spouse’s divorce.”
At the critical moment, when rumors broke out that I was the one at fault, Mr. Jiang panicked.
He immediately fired me.
But the rumors spread like wildfire.
I could no longer find work at any reputable company within the industry.
If I tried to join a small company, Ms. Zheng would feel too sorry for me.
In the end, she gave me a coffee brand.
“Yao, this is compensation for you.”
And it wasn’t until today, seeing Ms. Zheng’s attitude, that I finally realized-
She had always misunderstood, believing that Mr. Jiang had truly done something unforgivable to me.
“Jiang Ye, let the past be the past, alright?”
No one has ever wronged me.
On the contrary, it is I who have let down Ms. Zheng’s trust.
I cannot imagine, if the twisted and pathological way Jiang Ye and I interact were ever exposed, what a storm it would stir up.
Nor can I imagine how much new pain it would bring to the happy and content Ms. Zheng.
