Chapter 2
I thought that after this interview was released, people would criticize me, dig into my background, and boost the traffic on my social media.
But to my surprise, the comments were filled with nothing but envy. No one even questioned whether I was really forty years old.
Li Shiyu came over to my place for afternoon tea, sighing dramatically beside me:
“Yongan, you really chose the right family to be born into.”
I replied absentmindedly, still scrolling through my account homepage.
The latest travel video abroad had only a little over a hundred thousand views, and less than twenty thousand likes.
Li Shiyu leaned in, “Yongan, you still care about the numbers?”
I locked my phone and turned back with a smile:
“Not really, I just like to see how strangers throw shade at me. It adds a bit of fun to life.”
She responded with an “Oh,” then picked up two canelés and popped them into her mouth, praising:
“Your French desserts are amazing! The canelé molds must be expensive, right?”
I smiled at her, complimenting her good taste.
Then I took a sip of black tea, pretending not to notice the ‘photo recognition’ page open on her phone.
She was my fan, and because we lived in the same city, we got to know each other and eventually became ‘besties’-
At least, that’s how Li Shiyu saw it.
She leaned over, resting her head on my shoulder: “Yongan, why are you so good to me? Being your fan is such a blessing!”
I glanced down at her hand, patted it with a smile, and said nothing.
Li Shiyu was quiet for a moment, then suddenly asked shyly:
“Yongan, you’re so outstanding, your family must love you very much…
“I’m from out of town, working hard here, and I don’t have many friends. I was wondering if you would… introduce me to your family?”
I put away my smile and looked her in the eye.
Li Shiyu shrank back, a little intimidated.
But to her surprise, I said, “Sure.”
