Chapter 32

Extra-Qin He

The first time Qin He met Meng Li was on a winter night.

The family driver happened to be off that day, so Qin He went to an event venue to pick up Qin’s Mother, who had gone there to chase after a star.

While waiting at a traffic light, Qin He saw the woman from his mother’s phone wallpaper squatting by the roadside.

In the freezing weather, she was wearing a custom-made gown, holding a cup of milk tea in her hands, crying and shedding tears.

At that moment, Qin He’s impression of Meng Li was-beautiful, but seemingly not quite right in the head.

Qin’s Mother noticed Qin He’s gaze and also saw Meng Li squatting by the roadside.

“Oh dear, why is Meng Li here alone?” Qin’s Mother exclaimed, “Qin He, quickly, pull over!”

Qin He glanced at the roadside sign and said, “We can’t make a U-turn here.”

By the time they managed to turn around, Meng Li was already gone.

After all, she was a star; it was unlikely for her to stay outside alone for too long.

As the next heir of the Shibo Group, Qin He’s personal safety had never been particularly secure since childhood.

No matter how cautious he was, someone still tampered with his brakes.

Fortunately, the city was quite congested that day, so his speed wasn’t fast, but inevitably, he had a close encounter with the car in front.

Qin He didn’t expect the person he rear-ended to be Meng Li.

In a moment of impulse, he left his business card.

The contact information on the card was his private number.

But Meng Li never contacted him.

Qin He was very busy with work and soon put the matter behind him.

When he received a call from Meng Li that day, the scene of their first meeting involuntarily flashed in his mind.

Later, Qin’s Mother had someone look into the incident, thinking she had been bullied.

Only then did Qin He learn that she was Zhong Cheng’s ex-girlfriend.

And now, Zhong Cheng was not only getting engaged, but his fiancée was also her childhood friend.

It seemed a bit pitiful.

With that thought, Qin He agreed to Meng Li’s somewhat unreasonable request-to pretend to be her boyfriend and accompany her home to meet her parents.

Later, their visit to her parents was photographed and even made it to the trending topics.

An assistant once asked Qin He if he wanted to address the online rumors.

Qin He declined.

During that visit with Meng Li, his impression of her improved, so he didn’t mind helping her out.

During a family dinner, inevitably, the topic of marriage came up.

At that time, Qin He thought, if he were to get married, Meng Li seemed quite suitable.

Both of their jobs were very busy, and Meng Li wouldn’t cause a fuss if he didn’t have time for her.

Meng Li’s father was a university professor, her mother a renowned pianist, and she herself was a graduate of a prestigious school.

In terms of intelligence, there was no deficiency.

Her appearance needed no further mention.

Most importantly, his own mother was her fan.

If he married Meng Li, there would be no mother-in-law and daughter-in-law conflict in the future.

He didn’t dislike Meng Li as a person.

So later, Qin He really did it.

He asked Meng Li if she wanted to marry him.

And then he was rejected.

But Meng Li did start a relationship with him.

From as far back as Qin He could remember, his time had always been fully scheduled, leaving no room for romance.

When with Meng Li, Qin He didn’t quite understand her needs.

But every time Qin’s father returned from a business trip, he would bring gifts for Qin’s Mother.

And Qin’s Mother would always be particularly happy to receive them.

Qin He thought Meng Li would like that too.

Zhong Cheng was slightly taken aback, then took out a square box from beside him.

So often, it was the assistant who took his card to pick out gifts for Meng Li.

Qin He thought it didn’t matter who bought the gifts.

Until Meng Li broke up with him, he realized that what Meng Li wanted was completely different from what he thought.

He tried to win Meng Li back but failed.

Yet after that, every time Qin He went on a business trip, he would subconsciously set aside some time to buy gifts for Meng Li.

Even though these gifts, Meng Li would no longer want.

After breaking up with Meng Li, Qin He almost became a frequent flyer.

He was either on a business trip or on the way to one.

Occasionally feeling tired, Qin He would open Meng Li’s Moments.

Meng Li used to love posting on Moments.

But after their breakup, Meng Li’s Moments were never updated again.

Every time Qin He looked at it, he felt a bit uneasy inside.

On New Year’s Eve, Meng Li’s Moments were updated.

She posted pictures of dumplings she made and two red envelopes.

Seeing Meng Li’s new post, Qin He’s long-suppressed longing erupted uncontrollably.

Qin He wasn’t a fool.

During their time apart, Qin He had actually realized his own feelings.

But he was too busy, and it was the kind of busy that couldn’t be adjusted.

He feared he couldn’t be there for Meng Li and was even more afraid of disappointing her.

So no matter how much he missed her, Qin He kept restraining himself.

Until he saw Meng Li’s post, Qin He realized he wasn’t as magnanimous as he thought.

So even though it was snowing heavily in the capital that day, even though he was having a reunion dinner with his family.

Qin He still resolutely grabbed his car keys, took the gifts he had bought for Meng Li, and drove through the snow to see her.

On the way to the Meng Family, Qin He also thought that he might be rejected by Meng Li.

It was even possible that Meng Li wouldn’t want to see him at all.

But even so, he still wanted to try.

He thought he seemed to understand what kind of response Meng Li wanted.
