From Dog to Goddess: My CEO Ex's Afterlife Regret - Chapter 5
Meng Yichen’s father and my mother went abroad for vacation, leaving only him and me in the entire villa.
After dinner, I wanted Meng Yichen to join me for some cake, but he refused.
Unwilling to give up, I grabbed his arm, “Please, brother, just this once, the last time.”
It truly was the last time.
He initially wanted to shake me off, but his hand paused, as if he remembered something, and finally nodded reluctantly.
I knew he was reminded of the day Bai Yashu passed away, when she had also asked him the same thing, to accompany her for a meal.
Unfortunately, he didn’t.
That night, Bai Yashu left him forever due to cardiac arrest.
Perhaps out of guilt, Meng Yichen even helped me light the candles.
I closed my eyes, silently making a wish, inadvertently speaking aloud, “I wish for happiness every day, joy every day.”
The same wish as the past two years, spoken aloud once more.
Before I could blow out the candles, the lights suddenly came on.
A blinding white light filled my vision, Meng Yichen stood before me, his brows furrowed, staring at me with irritation.
His expression carried suppressed anger, his eyes full of disdain, “Miranda, do you really want me to spell it out?”
“Hmm?”
I was taken aback.
I didn’t expect him to suddenly become so agitated, even somewhat angry.
“Stop pretending, you’re worlds apart from her,” he said harshly, “Your imitation is truly disgusting!”
After speaking, he turned and walked towards Bai Yashu’s room, slamming the door shut, isolating me outside.
So, he thought I was imitating Bai Yashu.
The candlelight gradually dimmed, eventually leaving only a pool of wax, quietly solidifying on the cream.
I suddenly felt so tired.
I didn’t understand what I had been pursuing all along.
For a man, exhausting myself, getting hurt, was it really worth it?
This time, it truly was the last time.
I silently cut myself a piece of cake, using a fork to eat it bite by bite.
I picked up my phone, deleted the whitening essence from my shopping cart, and instead opened an app to start looking at houses.
To live with Meng Yichen, I commuted two hours to the company every day.
Now, all of this suddenly seemed ridiculous and absurd.
After arranging a house viewing, I went back to my room to sleep.
The cake meant for three ended up as an empty plate, all the sweet memories quietly fading away that night.
