Chapter 13
Almost another sleepless night.
I felt guilty, my heart racing for a man who was already taken.
Tossing and turning, I decided to distance myself from him. I couldn’t keep crossing the line like this.
The next morning, he was sitting at the dining table eating breakfast.
I was startled.
Wasn’t he always sleeping in until late? Why was he up so early today?
I grabbed a carton of milk and dashed out.
He looked up at me for a few seconds, saying nothing.
As I was leaving, he suddenly stood in front of me, hesitating to speak.
I hurriedly put on my shoes and walked to the elevator, waiting. He, however, beat me to it and pressed the button for the elevator.
“Are you… going out?” The waiting time was awkward.
I glanced at him. He seemed to have just washed his hair, which was getting long and almost covering his eyes.
He didn’t answer, just kept looking at me.
Unable to withstand his gaze, I looked away.
When the elevator reached the basement level, he stopped at the garage door, just staring at me. “You finish work at five, right?”
“Uh…” I was a bit confused by his question, “Yes, why do you ask?”
With his hands in his pockets, he looked at me lazily and said gently, “I’ll wait for you…”
His words hit me hard, and I hurried into the car without looking back.
Once I calmed down, I couldn’t help but wonder what he meant by waiting for me.
I thought about it until my brain felt like it would explode, yet I couldn’t understand his intentions. Even at work, all I could think about was how he kissed me last night. I was going crazy.
Finally, when work was over, I received a text from him.
“Bring me back a cup of milk tea.”
I glanced at it, “No time.”
“Working late?” he asked again.
I was stunned, not understanding why he was suddenly so interested in me. What was he up to?
“Date,” I replied bluntly. Actually, it was a dinner with colleagues from the office. I hadn’t planned on going, but now I decided to.
“?” He only sent a question mark.
“The company heartthrob invited me to a movie. Tell my mom I won’t be home for dinner.” I decided to make up a reason that would cut off his thoughts, and mine too.
He didn’t reply to my message.
Even though I checked my phone dozens of times during the dinner, there were no more messages from him.
He must have understood; my goal was achieved, yet I felt a strange emotion.
At the end of the dinner, everyone went to a karaoke bar to sing and drink.
Thanks to my colleagues’ persuasion skills, by the end, I’d forgotten who Liam Evans was. But who would have thought I’d see him again at that moment.
