Chapter 3
In the evening, a nurse came to give me an anti-nausea injection.
With a hint of probing in her voice, she asked, “Do you know Professor Xie?”
I lay on the bed, feeling utterly defeated, “No, why do you ask?”
“Professor Xie never gets involved in these matters, but this time he specifically went to the office and instructed your attending physician to prescribe the anti-nausea injection.”
I looked at myself in the mirror–
I’ve lost a lot of weight, and my complexion is poor due to the torment of illness.
Compared to ten years ago, the difference is stark.
Impossible…
Xie Shuyan’s memory couldn’t be that good–
Yes, his memory is excellent.
What if he has been holding a grudge against me all this time?
The glaring name “Meng Tingyue” hangs at the head of the bed; how could I think he wouldn’t recognize me?
My bestie chimed in, “Your Professor Xie is only 28, right? So young to be a professor?”
“Wow, you know quite a bit! Professor Xie pursued his medical studies straight through to his Ph.D., and he was only twenty-six or twenty-seven when he graduated. His resume is quite rare. Ordinary people can’t compare.”
They teased my bestie about her interest in Xie Shuyan, laughing as they said, “Are you trying to pursue our Professor Xie? I’d advise you to save your efforts. He already has someone he likes.”
My bestie winked at me.
Then I heard the nurse say, “The president’s daughter, a Ph.D. graduate from overseas, might be getting married soon.”
My bestie’s smile froze at the corners of her lips.
I tugged at the loose hospital gown, suddenly finding the threads on the fabric intensely interesting.
After the nurse left, my bestie couldn’t hold back, “Tingyue, I’m sorry…”
“There’s nothing to be sorry about.”
“I’m 28 this year, not 18.”
Those dreams of aloof male gods falling in love with me were abandoned long ago, ten years ago.
