Chapter 35

Extra Story

The first time Sheng Moyang met Shen Xian.

It was under a bus stop sign in the height of summer.

The girl wore a white dress, her gaze vacant.

She stood just a few steps away from him.

So when she collapsed, her face pale as paper, he caught her almost instinctively.

He carried her on his back and took her to the nearest hospital.

By chance, he overheard a nurse mention the girl:

“She’s the daughter of that innocent doctor who was stabbed to death by a patient not long ago.”

Sheng Moyang was stunned.

He had been present at the scene when that shocking, vicious medical dispute happened.

The patient, overcome by emotion, suddenly drew a knife and stabbed the male doctor who was still seeing patients despite his empty stomach.

Everything happened so quickly, no one could have foreseen it.

Amid the screams, Sheng Moyang, who had been waiting outside the consulting room, grabbed a chair and smashed it at the assailant.

But he was still a step too late.

The doctor was fatally wounded and, in the end, his life could not be saved.

On the hospital bed, the girl clung to his hand.

Tears slid from the corners of her eyes.

She murmured softly:

“Daddy, Daddy…”

Sheng Moyang gripped her hand tightly, his voice thick with regret.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry…”

Sorry, that I couldn’t save your father that day.

Sorry, that I moved too slowly.

Before he left, he folded a star and placed it in her palm.

On it, he wrote a sentence:

[He has simply stepped out of time, turned into a star to watch over you.]

The first time they met, he was filled with guilt toward her.

Yet he had no words to say.
