Falling for the Best Man, A Second Chance at Love - Chapter 3
The story between Gu Huaichen and me began in middle school.
At that time, my father had just passed away not long ago due to a medical dispute.
One Chinese class happened to be about fathers.
After class, I lay on my desk for a long time without lifting my head.
I even skipped the next PE class.
Not until all my classmates had gone to the playground did I dare to cry out loud in the empty classroom.
It was then that Gu Huaichen came and sat beside me.
He leaned on the desk, turning his head toward me.
Quietly gazing at me.
He reached out, the warmth of his fingertips gently wiping away my tears.
Through my tear-blurred vision, I heard the boy’s low voice:
“Shen Xian, I knew you would cry.”
My heart trembled softly, and I asked him in a low voice:
“You… why didn’t you go to PE class?”
“My period came.”
I let out a snort and laughed through my tears.
After a few giggles, I heard him say again:
“The girl I like is sad. How could I have the heart to play ball?”
That confession in the summer bound our two hearts tightly together from then on.
After graduating from high school, we both got into the same university.
In our friend circle, we posted photos of two overlapping admission letters.
Announcing to everyone our love.
After graduation, we registered our marriage.
Outside the Civil Affairs Bureau, his kiss fell on the corner of my lips.
He said repeatedly, “Please take care of me for the rest of my life.”
We walked together through storms and over mountains and seas.
I thought that after taking off my school uniform and putting on the white wedding dress, we would finally reach our happy ending.
But in the end, we were not exempt from the old saying-
“Yesterday, the flowers were bright and blooming; today, they seem ready to fall.”
I cannot say that I have no regrets.
