Chapter 4
The first time I met John was in the third year of senior high school.
Something happened in John’s family, and he was sent back to his hometown, temporarily transferring to the school I attended.
Transfer students in the third year of senior high school were rare, especially someone like John, dressed in designer clothes with an outstanding demeanor, clearly out of place among the people in our small town.
As the class monitor, I was assigned by the teacher to be John’s desk mate.
Thus, I had the perfect opportunity to get close to John.
At that time, I liked him, but this affection was not unusual. I was certain that one hundred percent of the girls in the class had a favorable impression of John.
It wasn’t necessarily romantic; when faced with beauty in people and things, one can’t help but feel joy.
John’s grades weren’t top-notch, but those from affluent families never relied on exams to change their lives.
So while I was buried in my studies, John quickly got acquainted with the classmates, even successfully started a romantic relationship.
Eventually, perhaps he got bored and set his sights on me.
Initially, I ignored him.
But the pressure from academics and family was suffocating me, and my subconscious told me I was about to break down; I needed an outlet.
So I accepted John.
He had rich experience in love, so being with him was enjoyable, and I felt a long-lost sense of relaxation.
Later, I got into my dream university, and the issues in John’s family were resolved, so he naturally had to return.
I was a bit sad at that time, but the feeling was short-lived, and I quickly adjusted.
I had long understood that the gap between us was too vast; we could only be passing figures in each other’s lives.
On the day he left, I was working a summer job at a factory to earn my college tuition.
He came to the factory to find me and gave me a designer bag.
He said it was his habit; he had given a bag to every girl he had dated, and I couldn’t break his habit.
I accepted it, and after work, I took out the bag to curiously examine it, discovering it contained a hundred thousand yuan and a note.
[Stop working, prepare well, get a driver’s license, change your style, go see the ocean you love, and get ready for college life.]
At that moment, a subtle feeling flashed through my mind, but it disappeared so quickly that I didn’t pay attention to it.
Until we met again at university.
He drove a flashy sports car, casually took off the sunglasses from his nose, and looked at me with a spirited expression: “Hey, ex-girlfriend, long time no see.”
At that moment, I had a vague premonition that I was done for.
There was a high probability that I would fall for him again.
