Chapter 3
Because of John, I’ve known his brothers for many years.
But after adding each other as friends, the chat window has been dormant in my phone for ages, with the only message being the initial “Hello, I’m xx.”
Henry is an exception.
He likes me, and from the very beginning, he never hid it from me.
In their eyes, as long as both parties are willing, sharing a woman among brothers is no big deal.
During every breakup with John, Henry would tirelessly appear, trying to persuade me to give him a chance.
I never entertained the idea.
It’s not that I’m morally superior and refuse to get involved with my ex-boyfriend’s brother; I just don’t see the necessity.
John and I have been on and off for so many years, entangled with too many emotions.
But I’m not so desperate that I can’t live without a man.
That’s why I don’t mind if John has someone else; on one hand, I’m tired and weary after all these years.
On the other hand, I feel that, in this regard, John and I are actually equal.
If I wanted, I could do the same as John, and he wouldn’t mind.
The suite Henry booked for me has a nice view. From the balcony, I can vaguely see the shadows of fireworks.
I put down my luggage and decided to sit on the balcony chair to enjoy the view.
Henry lay on another chair and asked why I suddenly became interested in John’s private life.
“I’m John’s legitimate girlfriend, can’t I be concerned?”
“You don’t need to worry too much. We can all see that John’s interest in Ella is just a novelty; it won’t shake your position.”
I nodded, saying I knew.
“Then what’s your purpose for coming here today?”
I propped my head on my hand and said lazily, “I haven’t seen John in love for a long time, and I’m a bit curious.”
Henry laughed, “If you want to see a man in love, you can come to me.”
He never misses a chance to promote himself.
I asked Henry what exactly he liked about me. He thought for a long time and finally shrugged helplessly, “I don’t know, maybe it’s the restlessness of the unattainable? If you let me have you once, maybe I’d let go.”
I laughed, “Then you’ll be restless for a lifetime.”
“How heartless. Don’t you think it’s unfair? Since John is fooling around outside, why do you need to stay faithful?”
“I’m not staying faithful for him.”
The atmosphere quieted down.
Amidst the faint sound of fireworks, across the mountains, I watched the lonely fireworks show.
Henry handed me his phone.
In their small group chat, someone was posting photos and short videos.
Among them was a scene of John and Ella kissing intimately. I saw the look in John’s eyes as he gazed at Ella, full of deep affection.
It was exactly the same as when he first looked at me.
