Falling for My Ex's Friend - Chapter 17
I waited for Henry for three days.
He sold off most of his properties, funds, and stocks, accumulating stacks of cash that took up half of the living room.
It was the first time I so viscerally felt the weight of cash.
Henry handed me a document with a nonchalant air.
“Along with the house, it’s all yours.”
He said, “Actually, I could gather more, but that would take a bit more time, and I can’t wait any longer.
“So, can we do installment payments?”
Strangely, I was shocked by Henry’s wealth, yet I couldn’t feel moved by his almost desperate measures.
This thought had occurred to me with that boyfriend I dated for just a few days.
It’s a lingering effect from my breakup with John.
I have too many memories and emotions, so I knew from the start that when I pulled myself out of that relationship that nearly took half my life-
I might, perhaps, probably, never feel any love again.
I’ve tasted all the sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy flavors of love. Starting a new relationship, the good and the bad, would just be a repeat of the path I’ve already walked.
I took John’s document, flipped to the last page, and signed my name decisively.
“No need for installment payments. I feel your sincerity.” I turned to look at him, extending my hand, “So from this moment on, you’re my boyfriend.”
I have no interest in a love that cuts to the bone.
But as a spice of life, having a harmless, wealthy, and handsome romance seems nice.
He just took a step forward, looking at me tentatively.
I looked at him, not retreating.
So he leaned slightly forward, like a dragonfly skimming the water, and placed a very light kiss on my forehead.
He said, “Zoe, thank you for giving me a chance, thank you for your blessing.
“You have the right to call it off at any time, and I’ll accept it.”
I provocatively asked, “If I call it off now, would you accept it?”
He laughed, took out his phone, “At least let me take a photo for memory’s sake.”
I took his phone, opened it, and looked up at the camera.
Henry stood behind me, making a peace sign next to my cheek.
“Alright, you can post it on Moments now.” I handed the phone back to him.
Henry obediently took the phone and started editing the caption.
He typed for a long time, and finally just posted a spinning penguin emoji along with our photo.
Almost the second it was posted, both our phones rang simultaneously.
But we did the same thing-turned them off.
“Then, girlfriend, shall we go on a date?”
“Sure, boyfriend.”
