Chapter 39 - Soul-Capturing Yin House (Part XV)
Regretfully, Mr. Zhuo addressed Mr. Liang after being reminded by Chen Shaoxian, “Mr. Liang, three months ago I listened to a street fortune-teller who claimed that the Feng Shui of our house was off and needed changes. At that time, our family business was indeed facing some difficulties. So, I took his advice. Since we are in real estate and all the workers are from our own family, including a foreman who has been with us for many years and whom we trust implicitly, I left the Feng Shui alterations to that fortune-teller and didn’t oversee it myself. Little did I expect such a disaster to occur.”
Liang Luo nodded, indicating he would investigate the matter, but only as a homicide case.
Everyone present understood that if they reported the events of today as they happened, Liang Luo would not only lose the stars on his shoulders but might also end up in a psychiatric hospital.
After gathering some information about the workers involved at the time, Liang Luo stood up to take his leave. As he was leaving, Chen Shaoxian handed out talismans to each of the police officers, who now regarded him almost as an Immortal. They accepted the talismans with profuse gratitude.
Liang Luo also wished for Chen Shaoxian to stay in Hong Kong for a few days, promising to host him graciously in recognition of his life-saving assistance. The other police officers also encouraged Chen Shaoxian to extend his stay, and only after he agreed did they leave the Zhuo Family home.
Seeing Chen Shaoxian looking exhausted, Mr. Zhuo quickly arranged for a car.
The group arrived at a hotel owned by the Zhuo Family, where they arranged a luxurious suite for Chen Shaoxian.
Chen Shaoxian, without any pretense, entered the room and fell into a deep sleep, too tired even to get up for dinner when Zheng Ruirui called him.
Understanding his exhaustion, the others did not disturb him and simply instructed the hotel staff to take good care of the guest in that room.
When Chen Shaoxian opened his eyes, it seemed to be noon by the daylight. He got up, stretched comfortably, and feeling hungry, he freshened up and left his room in search of something to eat.
Seeing Chen Shaoxian emerge from his room, a waiter quickly approached, escorted him to a luxurious private dining room, and served some fruit and pastries before running off to inform the boss.
Soon, Zhuo Family Members, Zheng Lei and his sister, along with the Zhang brothers, all walked into the private room, but they were all stunned upon entering.
The fruit and pastries served by the waiter were meant to offer Chen Shaoxian a light snack, purely out of politeness. However, Chen Shaoxian, already famished, took just a few steps into the room and began stuffing the food into his mouth.
It was unfortunate that the waiter was too preoccupied with notifying the Zhuo Family Members and had forgotten to serve Chen Shaoxian some tea or other beverages.
Having just woken up, Chen Shaoxian’s throat was very dry, and the pastries he grabbed were particularly soft and fluffy. He swallowed them almost without chewing, and one got stuck in his throat.
Just as the others entered, they saw Chen Shaoxian with his eyes bulging, clutching his throat and frantically searching the room, suddenly dashing towards the fish tank in the corner.
Zheng Lei quickly intervened, handing Chen Shaoxian a glass of water.
Chen Shaoxian gulped down the water, felt a gurgle in his throat, and finally caught his breath, his face turning red as he looked at the others.
Zheng Ruirui asked with concern, “Shaoxian, are you feeling better?”
Chen Shaoxian, his face still red, nodded and thought to himself, “I’ve embarrassed myself all the way to Hong Kong.”
Seeing that Chen Shaoxian was alright, everyone else laughed heartily.
After sitting down, Mr. Zhuo thanked Chen Shaoxian again and handed him a check for ten million.
Chen Shaoxian accepted the check without any objections.
Knowing Chen Shaoxian must be starving, Mr. Zhuo quickly ordered food to be served. During the meal, Mr. Zhuo told Chen Shaoxian that Liang Luo had arranged for the coffin to be removed that morning and had asked Mr. Zhuo to invite Chen Shaoxian to dinner the following evening.
After the meal, as soon as Chen Shaoxian returned to his room, he heard someone knocking. Opening the door, he saw the Zhang brothers standing outside, looking hesitant.
Chen Shaoxian invited them in and asked why they had come.
It turned out that after the events of the previous day, the brothers had many questions and had come specifically to seek Chen Shaoxian’s guidance, unsure if he would be willing to explain things to them.
Chen Shaoxian smiled and said to them, “If I were you, I’d have questions too. In fact, I guessed you might come.”
Reassured by his response, Zhang Xinyi spoke up, “Chen Shaoxian, we recognized the spirits of the snake, fox, and weasel from yesterday, but we didn’t know what the others were.”
“Besides these three immortals, the rest are either souls that cannot be reborn or wild ghosts who died unexpectedly. They inhabit different objects, taking on the forms of these objects. Yesterday’s events provided a rare opportunity for them to escape the paths of animals and hungry ghosts, so they tried even if it meant shattering their Soul and Spirit,” explained Chen Shaoxian.
Zhang Xinming couldn’t help asking, “How can these spirits become so powerful that they can project their Soul and Spirit out of their bodies?”
Chen Shaoxian did not directly answer Zhang Xinming’s question, but instead said, “Everything in the world contains vital energy; it’s all about how you cultivate it. These beings are very weak themselves, yet they can sense the energy of heaven and earth. However, they are not as formidable as you suggest, because their physical bodies are their limits. Usually, they can only confuse people and cannot physically harm them. At most, yesterday’s incident could have caused injury by collision, but they were able to replace the souls of the mother and son and reincarnate in their stead.”
“The reason beings like spirits like to harm people is that they want to escape the animal path. By confusing people and causing them to hallucinate, accidents occur. When these people die, the spirits replace their souls to transcend their path, while the victims’ souls become wandering ghosts, who must also use this method to reincarnate, creating a vicious cycle. However, these two types of beings carry the karmic obstacles of their past lives, which destine them to a life of hardship after reincarnation.”
“But yesterday’s situation was very special; they could sense that after reincarnation, they wouldn’t carry forward their own karmic obstacles, so they desperately released all their vital energy, achieving such an effect. For them, it was succeed or perish; failure would mean returning to dust and never transcending.”
“Mr. Chen, is what you taught us yesterday effective against other malevolent spirits?” Zhang Xinyi asked with concern.
Chen Shaoxian shook his head and said, “Nothing is absolute. The methods I taught you yesterday work against spirits and other malevolent entities, but they are not very effective against tangible malevolent spirits like zombies. To deal with those, you need methods like chopping with axes, cutting with knives, or burning with fire. There are also realm spirits and half-physical, half-spirit entities, for which you need a bit of everything.”
“Actually, the main issue is time. Once these beings start wreaking havoc, if you can’t manage to deal with them, your only option is to flee. Moreover, these beings usually cannot be confronted up close. Even the slightest contact could severely deplete your vital energy,”
Zhang Xinyi then asked, “Mr. Chen, how can one cultivate their own vital energy to communicate with the energy of heaven and earth?”
Chen Shaoxian looked at Zhang Xinyi and after a long silence, he finally began to speak about the ‘way.’
