Chapter 38 - Soul-Capturing Yin House (Part XIV)
Chen Shaoxian had just reached the position of the first pair of lamps when the sky turned gloomy, and a cold wind began to howl from all directions, carrying an indescribable and foul odor.
This wind surged into the courtyard, swirling around Chen Shaoxian and his companions, causing the flames on the lamp wicks to sputter loudly, looking as though they could be extinguished at any moment. The six police officers also swayed with the wind. Chen Shaoxian told them, “Cover your ears with your hands, stabilize your minds, and don’t let external forces disturb you.”
Upon hearing Chen Shaoxian’s instructions, the six officers covered their ears and steadied their minds. Their bodies stopped swaying, and similarly, the flames of the six lamps became steady, as if the wind had disappeared around them.
However, the wind continued to blow, mixed with various sounds that were incessant and increasingly noisy, as if countless voices were muttering something, disturbing the peace of mind. The noise grew louder and became rather grating.
Suddenly, the wind stopped, but many twisted currents of air, varying in shape, remained suspended in the air, forming numerous apparitions.
Chen Shaoxian knew that these entities were also waiting, so he returned his gaze to the mother and son’s Soul and Spirit, watching their hands as he slowly backed away.
Zhang Xinyi and his brother, their foreheads slick with nervous sweat, clutched the command flag, focusing on the apparitions lingering in the air.
By this time, Chen Shaoxian had retreated to the position of the second pair of lamps.
Suddenly, one of the apparitions in the air abruptly enlarged, swiftly enveloping another nearby air mass. This was followed by violent twisting, and from the contorted air, a piercing scream was emitted.
At the same time, the air masses in the sky engaged in fierce combat, with frequent occurrences of one engulfing another.
Chen Shaoxian knew his opportunity had arrived and quickly moved backward.
As he approached the third pair of lamps, the apparitions in the sky, noticing his movement, immediately ceased their struggle and rushed towards him.
Zhang Xinyi and Zhang Xinming knew it was their turn to take action, and they were not nervous. Holding the command flag in their left hand, they chanted in unison, “Five stars calm the colors, light illuminates the dark abyss. Thousands of gods and saints, protect my true spirit. Mighty celestial beasts, subdue the five forces. Demons of the five heavens, lose body and form. Wherever they are, all deities pay homage.” After finishing, Zhang Xinming transferred the command flag to his right hand and hummed nasally.
The sound instantly amplified, creating a blast wave that surged out like a tsunami, smashing into the ethereal shadows formed by the clusters of air. Many of these shadows emitted a howl and dispersed upon impact. The larger shadows, although shaken and somewhat dispersed, struggled for a moment before reforming, albeit much smaller than before..
After making this sound, the brothers Zhang Xinyi appeared wilted, their faces pale and bodies slightly trembling, yet they clenched their teeth and retreated with Chen Shaoxian.
The remaining few shadows no longer charged at Chen Shaoxian but blocked his path of retreat, hovering above the last pair of eternal lights, waiting for him there.
As Chen Shaoxian neared the last pair of eternal lights, he suddenly turned around, discarded the soul guiding banner, and swiftly drew a talisman in the air, shouting, “Six calamities bring catastrophe, winds carry flames, soldiers battle deceit, plagues and famine arise, forbid, sever, end, annihilate.” After speaking, he bit his tongue, spraying a mist of blood, and formed the White Tiger seal with a slightly bent middle finger, striking it into the mist.
The blood mist instantly boiled, turning into a fiery orb that flew in front of the shadows and exploded with a bang. The red mist enveloped all the shadows, which instantly turned fiery red as if ablaze, dissipating into wisps of blue smoke in the air.
Chen Shaoxian stood there, his face deathly pale, gasping heavily. He turned to look at the souls of the mother and son and noticed their hands were still not joined. Biting his lip, he steeled his resolve and retreated to the position of the last lamp. He crouched down, bit his middle finger, and drew a talisman on the ground.
After drawing the talisman, he looked up at them and said, “I promise I will see it through,” then took another step back.
The mother and son stepped forward, exactly at the position of the third pair of eternal lights.
Suddenly, the seven eternal lights emitted a white incandescent glow, and the oil inside rapidly decreased, causing the soul and spirit of the mother and son to become increasingly faint.
Chen Shaoxian murmured softly, “Heavenly laws and earthly decrees, the Purple Yuan array, aligning the Big Dipper, brilliance enlightens the universe, the stars continue the connection.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the light from the eternal lamps shifted from white to rainbow-colored, and the hands of the mother and son slowly came together.
At this moment, the rainbow light emitted by the eternal lamps converged, forming a bridge like a rainbow, seemingly guiding the mother and son. However, they did not step forward as if waiting for something.
Chen Shaoxian, seeing the lamp oil almost depleted, became anxious. But at that moment, there was nothing he could do but worry.
Just then, another soul emerged from the Zhuo Family’s house and quickly joined the mother and son, taking the child’s other hand.
As the lamp oil finally burned out, the light dimmed and the colors of the rainbow began to fade, appearing as if they would disappear soon.
Chen Shaoxian saw all this and felt a chill in his heart.
But suddenly, a more vibrant rainbow fell from the sky, and the three souls suddenly knelt before Chen Shaoxian and kowtowed three times, then stood up, stepped onto the rainbow, and disappeared.
Chen Shaoxian stared in bewilderment, then chuckled as he recalled the story of the Nine-children Ghost Mother. Looking up at the sky, he laughed heartily, feeling extremely content. Feeling lighter, he sat down on the ground and could not get up again.
Zhang Xinyi and Zhang Xinming supported each other as they walked up to Chen Shaoxian and sat down opposite him, saying, “Mr. Chen, we sincerely wish to become your disciples.”
Chen Shaoxian looked at them seriously and said, “I’m not in a position to decide that, especially given your age, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to take you on.” Seeing their disappointed expressions, he quickly added, “However, when my old man returns, I can ask him if he is willing to take on disciples.”
Their faces lit up with excitement at Chen Shaoxian’s words, turning almost as red as if they had been injected with vigor.
Chen Shaoxian could tell that Zhang Xinyi and Zhang Xinming were very upright, their righteous energy was strong, which was why the command flag could unleash such great power. Seeing them offer to become his disciples, he immediately thought of the old man.
The old man was getting on in years and always ventured out alone, which really worried Chen Shaoxian. It would indeed be good to have Zhang Xinyi and Zhang Xinming accompany him.
After a moment on the ground, he let the police open their eyes and helped the three back into the house.
The people inside the house, having heard such a commotion, were very worried. Seeing Chen Shaoxian and the others return, especially with Chen still bleeding from the corner of his mouth, they quickly moved chairs for them to sit.
Chen Shaoxian took out a cigarette, but before he could light it, Zheng Ruirui snatched it away and stomped on it twice, saying, “You’re already like this, why are you still smoking?” She then handed him a bottle of water, looking at him with concern.
Chen Shaoxian rinsed his mouth with the water and then told the Zhuo Family Members that the situation was largely resolved. However, the house could no longer be inhabited since he had destroyed the Ghost Gate.
Seeing the Zhuo Family Members puzzled, he explained, “Every house has its Ghost Gate. The living enter through the Yang Gate, and the dead leave through the Ghost Gate. With the Ghost Gate destroyed, first, spirits that mistakenly enter through the Yang Gate cannot leave. Second, if someone in the house is pregnant, the reincarnating soul cannot find its way out, leading to stillbirth. Third, if someone dies, their soul will be trapped. Thus, it’s best to demolish this house and plant peach trees all over.”
Actually, even if you killed the Zhuo Family Members, they would no longer live here. The Zhuo Family Members had already decided to buy a house next to Zheng Lei’s and relocate to the mainland, as their family business had moved inland, and having Chen Shaoxian nearby gave them a real sense of security.
Chen Shaoxian stretched and said, “My work here is done; the rest is up to Mr. Liang.”
This left Liang Luo somewhat puzzled, only to hear Chen Shaoxian chuckle and say, “I was originally thinking of finding a spot to bury it quietly, but with the police here, I’ll need your help to handle it. Also, Uncle Zhuo, isn’t it time you filed a report?”
