Chapter 6
Three months later, Grandma finally recovered and was discharged from the hospital.
Just as I settled her in and returned home, Su Qing cornered me in the garage.
She nonchalantly opened my car door, looked at me with an innocent expression, and asked:
“I lost an earring. Have you seen it?”
The confined space of the car was filled with her perfume, which made me feel nauseous. I replied coldly:
“Please get out.”
“That earring was a gift from my boyfriend. I really like it, and I lost it. What’s wrong with me looking for it?”
With that, Su Qing started rummaging through my car, making a mess of my things while muttering to herself.
“Strange, it was just here that day. How could it be missing?”
At that moment, a piercing horn sounded in the silent garage.
Su Qing was startled, turned to see my frosty expression, and then laughed.
“Don’t be angry. Those wrinkles will make you even less desirable.”
I took a deep breath, suppressing my anger, and asked.
“Don’t you have any sense of shame?”
Su Qing stopped laughing and sneered.
“Life is short. Why should I impose so many rules on myself? As long as I’m happy, that’s all that matters. Besides, Gu Ze and I are in love. Why can’t we be together?
“You just met Gu Ze earlier than I did. What’s there to be proud of? There’s no right or wrong in love. The unloved one should be the one to leave.”
My nails dug into my flesh, but I felt no pain. I glared at her, teeth clenched, and said.
“No matter how you justify it, you’re still the other woman, unprotected by the law, unworthy of making demands in front of me. My marriage with Gu Ze is none of your business.”
Su Qing glanced at me disdainfully and scoffed.
“Do you think Gu Ze is reluctant to divorce you? He hasn’t loved you for a long time. What’s the point of clinging to him? His heart is no longer with you. You might as well leave sooner and retain some dignity.”
Su Qing’s provocation finally pierced the last layer of pretense between Gu Ze and me.
I promptly packaged the dashcam footage and sent it to Gu Ze, then mentioned the word “divorce.”
In less than twenty minutes, Gu Ze rushed home.
Seeing me packing, he pressed down on my suitcase.
“What are you doing?!”
Without looking up, I continued folding my clothes.
“Divorce, moving out.”
“I don’t agree!”
Gu Ze refused without a hint of hesitation.
I looked at him expressionlessly and said.
“I’m informing you, not asking for your opinion.”
Seeing my firm stance, Gu Ze softened his tone.
“I was wrong about Su Qing. Can you forgive me? I promise I’ll handle it. Can you trust me one more time?”
Unmoved, I picked up my suitcase and headed for the door. Gu Ze quickly blocked the doorway, grabbing my suitcase, his face dark.
“Shu Jia, think it over. If you walk out that door today, I’ll bring Su Qing in right after. Begging me then won’t help.”
I tugged at my suitcase, finding it immovable, and the anger that had been building for so long erupted at that moment.
“Listen carefully, Gu Ze. I don’t want the suitcase, and I don’t want you either.”
