Chapter 12
One year later.
I have completely adapted to life in the northern city.
And I have never dreamt of Ethan Sterling again.
Lucas and I are not in the same department.
But being alumni, we naturally became lunch buddies.
Our relationship seems to be getting closer, just waiting for that thin layer of paper to be pierced.
At the end of June, the company had an important client visiting.
Yu Minghui, the leader, attached great importance to it and personally went to the airport to pick them up.
I was responsible for dispatching the reception vehicle.
But that day, unfortunately, there was an accident on the road.
The reception car arrived at the airport five minutes late.
I didn’t have time to see the client’s appearance clearly.
As soon as I got out of the car, I immediately bowed and apologized, “I’m very sorry for the delay of the vehicle, making you wait-”
Before I could finish speaking.
I collided with a gaze that couldn’t be more familiar.
Ethan Sterling.
“Is it you?” I almost blurted out.
Immediately, I was scolded by Yu Minghui:
“Avila Winters! You’re too presumptuous! Is this how you speak to an important client?”
“And this car! You can’t even arrange such a small thing properly! Can you do your job or not? If not, get out!” Mr. Yu was merciless when it came to reprimanding, and colleagues were long accustomed to it.
Moreover, today it was indeed my fault first, I had no intention to argue, and could only continue to apologize.
After getting in the car, Mr. Yu was still smiling apologetically at Ethan:
“Mr. Sterling, I’m very sorry, this employee of ours just graduated a year ago and doesn’t understand the rules, please don’t mind.”
Ethan said nothing.
His silence made the atmosphere in the car terrifyingly tense.
Mr. Yu cautiously tried to engage Ethan in conversation.
Unfortunately, Ethan was completely uninterested.
After going around in circles, Mr. Yu had no choice but to vent his frustration on me.
But he didn’t succeed.
Because Ethan suddenly spoke, asking a question that left everyone in the car puzzled:
“This is the good job Lucas introduced you to?”
Only I, sitting in the front passenger seat, replied without turning my head: “Mm, it’s quite fulfilling.”
“Your ability being used for reception dispatch is a waste.” His tone carried obvious disapproval.
“I have other work, today I’m just assisting with reception.”
“You two… knew each other before?” Mr. Yu asked nervously.
But Ethan ignored him.
He just looked at my profile and sighed almost inaudibly:
“Is having this kind of guy as your boss really better than staying by my side, Avy?”
