chapter 3
Chapter 3
I hurried to make up the lessons for her, and my life returned to calm.
Just when I thought the plot had come to a pause, one day after school, I ran into a fight in the alley behind the school.
A group from the neighboring technical school was beating up a boy from our school. I immediately ran back to tell the security guard.
As I was leading the way, it suddenly occurred to me-this seemed like the Male Lead’s entrance…
I’d forgotten the Male Lead’s actual name. These angst novels are all the same; the Male Lead is always a heartless lunatic. Who can remember who’s who?
The original work only recorded Yao’s memories before her death, all the past events interspersed as flashbacks, and there was no record of their first meeting.
But the text did mention that the reason the Male Lead was obsessed with his White Moonlight was because White Moonlight had saved his life when he was a child.
Just as he was about to lose consciousness from the beating, Lin Shuangshuang suddenly appeared, like a ray of light illuminating his path ahead…
Thinking of this, I waved to Yao in front of the snack stall: “Come here.”
Yao, with a piece of pork tenderloin in her mouth, obediently ran over to me.
“There’s a fight in the alley. Go lead the security uncle there.”
…
Yao always listens to me. She slung her backpack and left, and only after a while did I realize I should’ve snatched her pork tenderloin.
How could the Female Lead meet the Male Lead for the first time with her mouth full of grease? That’s just not right.
Not long after, Yao came bouncing back, saying the matter was resolved and the security guard had dispersed the troublemakers.
I subtly asked her about the Male Lead. She pulled a face and said he got beaten up pretty badly, his face was all bruised, so pitiful, and she kept gnawing on her pork tenderloin as she spoke.
Couldn’t you show a little more concern, sis…
Thinking of her ten-year-long puppy love in the original, I quietly went to the pharmacy next door and bought some iodine and bandages, telling her to deliver them to him.
Yao, this is as much as I can help you.
It’s not that I’m a purist about the Male Lead and Female Lead, but just in case she falls for that jerk again, at least she won’t have to suffer so much; maybe they can part ways more normally.
About a week later, a new student transferred to our class. He was a pretty decent-looking guy, but his face was always sullen, giving off a “stay away” vibe.
Every day he was either sleeping or skipping class. After the midterm, he even got into a fight with his deskmate-the two of them went at it like a storm.
I’m tall and sit in the second-to-last row.
The two boys were wrestling right in front of me. I quietly reached out and steadied my Mickey Magic Cup on the corner of the desk, then went back to reading my paper.
After a while, Teacher Cai came over, called the two of them out for a scolding, then called me out as well, pointing at the new student: “Lin Shuangshuang, can you sit with Xu Nanyi as deskmates?”
The tall boy, about 1.8 meters, met my gaze and turned his face away indifferently.
I opened my Mickey Magic Cup and took a sip of Da Hong Pao.
“Here’s the thing, your grades have improved a lot lately. You’re now among the top in the grade, making rapid progress. If you sit with Classmate Xu, you can share your study methods-let the advanced help the less advanced.”
The results haven’t been posted yet, but Teacher Cai was much kinder than usual, so my “progress” must be significant.
So much so that her gaze at me was full of calculation.
It’s common for teenagers to suddenly have a breakthrough and start excelling academically overnight. That’s normal.
Still, I had to be careful they didn’t think I was possessed and drag me to a temple for an exorcism. After all, my personality was completely different from the original, and lately even my mom looked at me with a hint of awe.
For safety, I nodded: “Okay.”
We returned to the back row of the classroom, one after the other. I patted the seat next to me: “Classmate Xu, move your desk over here.”
Xu Nanyi bristled like a hedgehog: “Why don’t you move to my spot?”
“Works for me.” I quickly packed up all my study materials. “I’m ready, you move.”
Xu Nanyi: ?
“I can’t move it.” I hugged my Mickey Magic Cup and lowered my lashes weakly.
Everyone’s eyes turned to Xu Nanyi.
There’s a social rating system in school. He can fight with boys and be a cool guy, but if he refuses to help a girl move her desk, he’ll be despised for having low character.
Xu Nanyi was silent for a while, then pulled his hand out of his pocket and moved my little desk. He might act tough, but he still cared about his reputation.
Once we were seated, I said to him, “Classmate Xu, I hope we can get along peacefully.”
“I don’t hit women.” Xu Nanyi picked up his water cup coldly.
“I hit men.”
Xu Nanyi spat out a mouthful of water, staring at me in shock.
I grinned, showing a row of teeth: “I’ve soloed a group of Class 10 bad girls in the bathroom.”
Xu Nanyi said that’s nothing; boys and girls are built differently, so the strength levels aren’t the same.
“Well said.” I nodded, opened the fourth unit of the biology book and put it in front of him. “Let’s review the differences between the sexes.”
Xu Nanyi looked at the two reproductive systems in the book, his handsome face slowly turning red. He coughed to cover it up: “This is Chinese class.”
I propped my chin and curled my lips: “You’re not listening anyway.”
Xu Nanyi hesitated for a while. When I tried to shove the biology book in his face, he finally pulled out his Chinese textbook slowly: “Stop messing around.”
The Chinese teacher saw the usually fighting, sleeping-in-class Xu Nanyi sitting upright with his book out, was stunned for a moment, pushed up her black-rimmed glasses, then called my name and told me not to chat with him.
“Did you hear that?” Xu Nanyi muttered softly, “Don’t talk to me.”
I took a sip of Da Hong Pao: “Depends on your behavior.”
