Disguised as a Man, She Has Eight Men Fighting Over Her - Chapter 70 - Quite a Scene
“Aren’t you going to invite me in?”
Inside the wardrobe, Lin Cheng screamed inwardly, Don’t!
But Jiang Si’s cool voice seemed determined to thwart her.
“Come in.”
Lin Cheng nearly exploded. Fuck!
The light outside the wardrobe dimmed as Shen Qingrang entered.
Through the gap, she saw his long legs stop a short distance away. Jiang Si unobtrusively positioned himself in front of the wardrobe.
“How are the injuries?” Shen Qingrang looked at the open first-aid kit on the floor. “They seem to have been treated.”
“Mm.”
Shen Qingrang drew a light breath.
“Your room… smells a little different.”
Jiang Si didn’t move. His voice was level. “Does it? Hadn’t noticed.”
Then he added, with a hint of dismissal, “You came all this way just to say that?”
Shen Qingrang chuckled. “Of course not.”
His footsteps came closer to the wardrobe. He asked softly, “You care a great deal about Lin Chen?”
Jiang Si was silent for a moment. Then his lips moved, barely forming the words.
“She’s special.”
She?
Shen Qingrang turned that almost inaudible syllable over in his mind.
Intelligent people rarely needed many words.
He leaned slightly closer and tested his suspicion in a voice only they could hear.
“Did you say ‘he’… or ‘she’?”
Jiang Si met the question with silence.
So he did know.
Shen Qingrang slowly leaned back and adjusted his glasses.
“Special things always attract attention. But…”
Bzzzz.
A phone vibrated at exactly the wrong moment inside the wardrobe, cutting him off.
His pupils contracted. An icy gaze shot toward the wardrobe behind Jiang Si.
Jiang Si raised an eyebrow and shifted to block him.
Inside, the phone’s owner jolted in fright.
Xie Zhi was requesting a video call.
That fucking menace. Of all the times!
Lin Cheng hurriedly rejected it.
The phone buzzed several more times.
[Xie Zhi: Rejected my video call again?]
[Xie Zhi: Okay, my possessiveness is acting up. Report in. What are you doing right now?]
[Xie Zhi: Look at the Moments post I made for you. Give it a like, baby. ♥]
[Lin Cheng: Like your mom!]
She immediately muted him, her heart hammering.
[Xie Zhi: My tears have soaked the charging cable. Every message comes with an electric shock.]
Outside the wardrobe, the atmosphere was strange.
Lin Cheng thought she heard Shen Qingrang give a small laugh.
Then her screen lit up.
Shen Qingrang.
Her mind went blank. Trembling, she answered.
“Come out.”
The voice outside the door matched the one in her phone perfectly.
Lin Cheng was speechless.
It was fine. Her heart might be dead, but her mouth still worked. She could still make things up. Terrifying, really.
Creak.
The wardrobe door opened from outside.
Light flooded in, making her squint.
Shen Qingrang stood before her, his phone still held to his ear.
“Do you need an invitation?” he asked, with dangerous softness.
Her scalp prickled. In a moment of sheer madness, she did something neither man expected.
She raised a foot and kicked the wardrobe door with everything she had.
Crash!
The door sagged sideways, wobbling.
“Actually.”
“I came to fix the captain’s wardrobe.”
Still holding his phone, Shen Qingrang narrowed his eyes behind his lenses. He watched the absurd scene without a word.
Lin Cheng gritted her teeth, turned, and grabbed the other door. Using every ounce of strength, she wrenched it hard.
Crack! Clatter!
The second door fell too.
The wardrobe stood wide open, every piece of Jiang Si’s clothing exposed.
Lin Cheng pointed at the two fallen casualties.
“See? These doors are really flimsy. I was inside investigating.”
Shen Qingrang ran his fingers lightly over the broken edge. The splintered wood was fresh.
“Mm. Very flimsy.”
She swallowed nervously. He took her wrist.
“Finished investigating, Lin Chen?” His tone left no room for refusal. “Time to go.”
As he started to lead her away, another warm hand closed around her other wrist.
“Wait,” Jiang Si said coldly.
With one man holding each wrist, Lin Cheng froze, unable to move.
Shen Qingrang raised an eyebrow, his gaze cooling behind his glasses. “Something else?”
“We haven’t finished discussing the wardrobe.” Jiang Si glanced at the panels on the floor.
Shen Qingrang chuckled, his fingers tightening slightly. “I can arrange the repairs.”
“No need.” Jiang Si yielded not an inch. “It’s her handiwork. She should take responsibility.”
Their gazes clashed. Neither showed any intention of letting go first.
Caught between them, Lin Cheng felt the pull from both sides and the mounting tension.
“Um…” she ventured weakly. “I really could try to fix it…”
“Shut up.”
“Quiet.”
Both men cut her off at once.
At that taut moment, Pei Jinye’s piercing howl rang down the corridor.
“Are you done yet? What the hell are you doing next door? Demolition? Renovation? Can a man get some peace?”
It was so sudden and so loud that Lin Cheng flinched. Both men frowned.
The bedroom door was unlocked. Pei Jinye, plainly out of patience, turned the handle and stuck his head in.
His red hair was a mess. He had obviously been napping.
“I’m telling you—” His complaint died halfway out.
He looked at the two fallen wardrobe doors, then at the three people in the room.
“Holy shit…?”
“The three of you… really go hard, huh?”
“No! I’m fixing the wardrobe!” Lin Cheng protested.
“Fixing the wardrobe?” He pointed at the two men. “Does that require you two to… do this?”
He mimed tugging in opposite directions.
“What new renovation technique is that? Couples who smash together stay together?”
Shen Qingrang said nothing.
Neither did Jiang Si.
They let go at the same time, both wearing complicated expressions.
Pei Jinye’s interruption had made the confrontation suddenly ridiculous and difficult to define.
Shen Qingrang recovered first. “Pei Jinye, it’s nap time. Don’t disturb everyone.”
“Me?” Pei Jinye pointed at his own nose, incredulous. “Dude, you’re the ones going crash-bang in here! I thought it was an earthquake!”
He nudged a fallen door with his foot.
“Jiang Si, did you piss my daddy off? He smashed your wardrobe?”
Jiang Si’s face grew colder. He didn’t answer.
Lin Cheng hurried to explain. “No. It’s poor quality. I was fixing it.”
“Ohhh.” Pei Jinye drew out the sound.
Shen Qingrang took a deep breath. There was no communicating with this man’s peculiar mind.
“Jinye, take Lin Chen back to rest.”
