Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 70 - Master Chen Nan of the Chen Family
After finishing the herbal medicine preparation, Tang Jie collapsed heavily onto the ground. This time, he had used his own heaven and earth spiritual energy to speed things up, so he was extremely exhausted.
The next day, Tang Jie groggily woke up in an unfamiliar room. After taking a moment to survey his surroundings, he quickly got out of bed and rushed toward the door. Just as he stepped outside, he spotted Wang Qianya practicing martial arts.
Tang Jie felt a surge of happiness at the sight of Wang Qianya’s graceful figure; his heart raced, and he didn’t even notice the threshold beneath his feet.
“Smack.” Tang Jie’s hand slammed onto the doorframe, and he barely managed to steady himself.
“Giggle, what are you up to?” Wang Qianya’s tinkling laughter echoed in front of him. Hearing her voice made Tang Jie frown, and he almost stumbled again.
“Ha ha, when did Miss Wang wake up?”
“Hmm, I just woke up. I didn’t expect you to work so hard to save me,” Wang Qianya said, looking at Tang Jie with a grateful expression.
Feeling a bit shy, Tang Jie turned his head away, only to unexpectedly catch sight of Wang Batian, who wore a serious expression, and Mrs. Wang, who was smiling beside him.
“Tang Jie, Qianya, come in for a moment,” Mrs. Wang said with a warm smile.
Tang Jie paused, taken aback. Given the situation, he didn’t expect anything good would come from this.
Once they entered, Mrs. Wang graciously brought Tang Jie a cup of tea and said, “I’ll just call you Tang from now on.”
“Tang, I really appreciate your lifesaving efforts for Qianya the other day. We can’t repay you for this, so please accept this,” Mrs. Wang said as she handed a token to Tang Jie.
“What is this…?” Tang Jie asked, his face filled with confusion.
“This is a special token for our Wang ancient martial arts family. If you encounter any difficulties, you can use this token to ask anyone from the Wang family for help; seeing this token is like seeing the head of the family.”
“This is too much, Mrs. Wang, I just did what I was supposed to do.”
“Don’t be modest, Tang. This is our gratitude, and you should accept it.” As Tang Jie tried to return the token, Mrs. Wang showed no intention of taking it back.
“All right, let’s leave it at that. Next, I want to discuss Qianya’s situation,” Mrs. Wang said, glancing at Tang Jie and then at Wang Qianya.
Seeing this situation, Tang Jie deliberately made a gesture of avoidance.
“No, Tang, you should listen too,” Mrs. Wang insisted.
“The ancient martial arts tournament will be held in a month, and our Wang Family plans to send Qianya to compete. However…” Mrs. Wang’s expression was conflicted as she glanced at Wang Qianya and then at Tang Jie.
Tang Jie nodded in understanding and said, “I estimate that Miss Wang won’t be able to participate in the competition after a month.”
“That’s exactly what we mean,” Wang Batian suddenly spoke up.
Upon hearing this, Tang Jie realized what task he was about to be entrusted with.
“Are you asking me to replace Miss Wang in the competition?” Tang Jie responded, puzzled.
“Yes,” Mrs. Wang affirmed with a firm nod.
However, Tang Jie shook his head, saying, “No, Mrs. Wang, Uncle, I have my own responsibilities.”
“You can do it, Tang. We believe in your capabilities. All you need to do is show up for the competition on time in a month,” Mrs. Wang and Wang Batian urged with hopeful expressions.
Looking at their pleading faces, Tang Jie reluctantly nodded. In fact, he was also curious to see what the ancient martial arts tournament was all about, which was why he begrudgingly agreed; otherwise, he wouldn’t have bothered getting involved.
Tang Jie often found himself thinking about Wang Qianya’s face late at night and the words she once said to him.
“I’ve secretly liked you for a long time…”
Indeed, Tang Jie had secretly developed feelings for Wang Qianya.
However, he was now feeling conflicted, as Chen Shuran had also hinted to him that she had feelings for him as well. This left him uncertain about how to choose between them.
Initially, Wang Qianya was extremely surprised to see Chen Shuran, and the two women openly competed for Tang Jie’s attention, which made him feel quite awkward but also added a touch of pride.
How many people could say they had two beautiful women feeling jealous over them?
After Wang Qianya had recovered, Tang Jie left her home alone, and she did not accompany him back to G City. From then on, the space beside him remained empty.
Within the Chen family, there had always been a hidden master who had been quietly observing Tang Jie. Ever since Tang Jie killed Chen Yin, the head of the Chen family had sworn with gritted teeth that he would have Tang Jie torn apart.
After discovering that Tang Jie was merely an unknown individual, the fact that a mere ant from the secular world had killed Chen Yin was, in their eyes, the greatest insult to the Chen family. They could no longer tolerate such humiliation and decided to send out their top master, who had been concealed within the family.
Tang Jie hurried to the train station. This time, he did not drive to H City; instead, he took public transportation. He had sent Chen Shuran back ahead of him while he stayed at Wang Qianya’s home for a few days. When leaving, he took with him a piece of defensive armor that Wang Batian had given him, along with numerous rare herbs.
As Tang Jie sat on the train, he unknowingly dozed off. When he opened his eyes again, he realized the train had already arrived at G City.
Stretching his limbs, Tang Jie glanced at the lazy crowd passing by his seat. He squeezed himself into the throng, effortlessly causing the people to scatter, and he smiled as he made his way to the front of the crowd.
However, just as he got off the train, trouble struck again. A figure suddenly pushed through the crowd toward Tang Jie, brandishing a long knife; an ancient martial artist’s aura erupted around him.
“Bang.” Caught off guard, Tang Jie could only use his hands to push against the intruder. When he did so, a loud clap echoed as his hand met the assailant.
The force of the impact sent Tang Jie flying back a few steps, barely avoiding the attack. However, after the retreat, Tang Jie furrowed his brow tightly, looking at the assailant with a mixture of surprise and wariness.
Tang Jie dashed forward, breaking free from the crowd and running along the train tracks for a short distance.
The intruder, indeed, chased after him. After running for quite a while, Tang Jie stopped when he found himself in a sparsely populated area.
“Friend, what have I done to you? Why try to kill me without any explanation?” Tang Jie coldly glared at the thin middle-aged man before him.
The middle-aged man paused slightly and replied flatly, “Are you Tang Jie? You’re quite a genius, but unfortunately, that genius is about to be extinguished today.”
“Ha ha, I see you have some skills as well, but why allow yourself to be manipulated by others?”
“Hmph! I am a member of the Chen family. Although you and I have no enmity, you have crossed the Chen family, so you might want to figure this out for yourself.” Chen Nan replied, his expression dark and foreboding.
Tang Jie nodded, looking at Chen Nan with understanding.
“The Chen family really knows how to create trouble. Haven’t enough people died yet?”
“You killed Chen Yin, so I must kill you,” Chen Nan said coldly.
Tang Jie frowned slightly, feeling speechless. “How can the Chen family be so unreasonable? It was Chen Yin who tried to kill me first.”
“Hmph, I don’t care. If I don’t take your life today, I can’t go back to report,” Chen Nan replied defiantly.
“Are all the people from the Chen family such rogues?” Tang Jie glanced at Chen Nan, feeling helpless.
Before Tang Jie could finish speaking, Chen Nan charged at him fiercely, a dazzling array of colors flashing in his hands, creating a hurricane-like force aimed straight at Tang Jie.
“A master from the Heaven-Man Realm.” Upon witnessing Chen Nan’s attack, Tang Jie furrowed his brow. He had just barely entered the Heaven-Man Realm himself, while the man across from him clearly had years of experience in it. Tang Jie realized that he was at a disadvantage.
But since trouble had come knocking at his door, he knew he had to fight with all his might.
Observing Chen Nan’s techniques, Tang Jie tried to devise a counter-strategy, but the sound of rushing wind filled the air as the two of them moved with blinding speed, making it difficult to see their figures.
It was as if they could become invisible, appearing and disappearing in the air in an instant.
At that moment, as the train’s horn sounded, there were no other passengers disembarking, leaving their surroundings empty. If anyone had witnessed their battle, they would have likely found it impossible to comprehend and might be left questioning their very perception of reality.
Finally, after dozens of minutes of intense combat, their bodies became visible once more.
Tang Jie lay on the ground, panting heavily, while Chen Nan stood effortlessly on the other side. Despite the earlier impressive display of skill, it might seem that both fighters were evenly matched, but that was far from the truth. Tang Jie’s strength was significantly inferior to Chen Nan’s; he was only holding his own because he was pushing himself to the limit while Chen Nan had not yet exerted his full power.
“Truly weak and fragile,” Chen Nan remarked coldly as he looked down at the panting Tang Jie, seemingly in no hurry to finish him off, almost toying with him.
After catching his breath for a while, Tang Jie finally managed to stand up slowly as his energy recovered a bit.
“I admit your strength is indeed formidable, but let’s see if you can withstand this!”
As soon as Tang Jie finished speaking, a surge of light swirled around his hand. In less than half a second, the Sky-Turning Needle shot toward Chen Nan like a tempest.
At that moment, a sliver of caution finally crossed Chen Nan’s face. He swung his sword, and a disk suddenly appeared in front of him. Countless Sky-Turning Needles struck the disk, which then caused them to fall to the ground like leaves in the wind.
