Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 44 - Recovery
Tang Jie coldly eyed the three ancient martial arts masters in front of him and bellowed, “Tell me, why did you kidnap the Chen family’s daughter?”
“Ha ha, what makes you think you have the right to lecture us?” one of the masters retorted as he stepped forward, fixing his gaze on Tang Jie. “Is it because you’re stronger? Or because you’re too weak?”
Frost had already formed between Tang Jie’s brows. He had hoped to peacefully get through these three months and establish his life here afterward, but these reckless fools insisted on troubling him.
Tang Jie could no longer contain his anger. The only kindness in his heart had been completely incinerated. He had initially thought to show some mercy and spare a few of them, but under the current circumstances, would they refrain from returning if he did?
Beside him, Wang Qianya was already gripping a small dagger. She stood next to Tang Jie; the two were a striking pair-one tall and lean, one short and slim.
Without another word, Tang Jie quietly drew a sword from his side, sweeping it through the air towards the three men like a gust of wind.
In an instant, the five of them were locked in combat. After a brief melee, Tang Jie was left fighting two of them alone, while Wang Qianya took on another by herself.
Clang clang clang. The sound of metal striking metal echoed continuously around the abandoned construction site. Chen Shuran and Xiao Ran hid in a corner, anxiously watching the scene unfold, although their view was obscured by some debris.
They could only guess what was happening from the sounds.
“We must win, we must win!” Chen Shuran murmured a prayer, her hands clasped together, shaking them in front of her face.
Meanwhile, Xiao Ran, scared stiff without realizing when, wondered why she was even involved. She had simply followed Chen Shuran out of the school in a huff, never anticipating stumbling into this situation. If she told anyone else, they’d never believe her.
Once again, the focus shifted to Tang Jie’s battlefield. By then, an ancient martial artist was already lying on the ground, bloodied and lifeless, while the one battling Tang Jie was also covered in blood and seemed ready to flee.
“Trying to run?” Tang Jie bellowed, and with a swift motion, his sword pierced like an arrow through the back of the ancient martial artist. Amidst a cloud of dust and the sound of a body hitting the ground, Tang Jie ruthlessly pulled his sword out.
“Speak, who are you people, and who sent you?” Tang Jie demanded as he drew the blade across the face of the ancient martial artist.
The ancient martial artist was visibly startled, trembling as he stared at the sword in Tang Jie’s hand.
“I’ll say it one more time, speak or die. I am quite gentle, you know, and so are my methods of killing,” Tang Jie said with a smirk, looking at the ancient martial artist. At these words, a look of sheer terror spread across the man’s face.
From the moment Tang Jie had laid eyes on them, he knew these individuals were well-trained. Extracting information from them was going to be tough, but for Tang Jie, a former assassin who had completed countless missions, their resilience was hardly impressive.
As expected, upon seeing Tang Jie’s expression, the ancient martial artist’s body shook violently. He tried to struggle to his feet but lost all courage under Tang Jie’s forceful stomp.
“Stop wasting effort, just talk. I don’t have all day to waste on someone about to die.”
“No, don’t kill me, I’ll talk, I’ll talk,” the ancient martial artist finally yielded. Tang Jie then crouched closer to hear him better.
“We are from Viper, but I truly don’t know who our boss behind the scenes is,” the ancient martial artist said, his voice filled with a tone of pleading, hoping that it would be enough to convince Tang Jie to spare him.
“Viper?” Tang Jie furrowed his brow and pondered for a moment. After scrutinizing the ancient martial artist on the ground and seeing no sign of deceit, he landed another fierce kick to the man’s stomach, then prepared to leave nonchalantly.
“Wait.” Wang Qianya suddenly stopped Tang Jie. She had already dealt with the ancient martial artist on her side and was now staring blankly from a distance at Tang Jie’s spectacle.
Tang Jie turned to look at Wang Qianya, suddenly realizing something was amiss. After a moment of reflection, he slapped his forehead, “Oh no, I forgot to ask him where Chen Shuran went.”
After Tang Jie finished speaking, he prepared to approach the ancient martial artist still twitching on the ground. Just then, two figures emerged from a sand pile behind the construction site.
Seeing them, Tang Jie was overjoyed and quickly ran towards the two women. Caught off guard, he embraced them both tightly, seemingly unaware of what he was doing.
“Ah, Tang Jie, are you crazy?”
“Ah, Tang Jie, what on earth are you doing?” the two women screamed frantically, but their cries did nothing to quell Tang Jie’s excitement in that moment.
After holding them for a while, Tang Jie suddenly felt a sharp pain in his hands and a strong fragrance filled his nose. Realizing something was amiss, he looked up and saw the fair necks of the two women right in front of him.
“Ah, ah, ah…” He was met with the women’s continued screaming.
It was as if Tang Jie had been struck by a knife; his body stiffened, then he laughed hysterically as he staggered backward, and then turned and sprinted into the distance, disappearing into the sand and stones.
“Tang Jie, I’m going to kill you!” Chen Shuran yelled, gasping for air as she crouched on the ground.
By then, Tang Jie had completely vanished from Chen Shuran’s sight. He patted his chest and heaved a sigh of relief, remarking on the close call.
As usual, Tang Jie hid in the shadows, following Chen Shuran as she walked back to the Chen family villa. Only when he saw Chen Shuran safely enter the villa did he contentedly turn around and head back to Blue Bay Apartment.
