Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 30 - Chen Shuran's Invitation! Part 2
As soon as he returned to the apartment that Chen Jiankai had arranged for him, the phone in his pocket rang.
Without giving it much thought, Tang Jie pressed the answer button and said, “Hello, Uncle Zhao, what’s up?”
The reason Tang Jie was so sure it was Uncle Zhao calling was that, up to this point, he had only ever called Uncle Zhao.
Aside from Uncle Zhao, Tang Jie couldn’t think of anyone else who might have his number and would call him.
“Hehe, Tang, it’s me!” As expected, Uncle Zhao’s voice came through the line, but there was a hint of hesitation in his tone.
“Yes, Uncle Zhao, is there something you need?” Tang Jie asked again.
“Well, Tang, about the thing we discussed last time, how much longer until my left shoulder injury can be treated?” It had only been two days, but Uncle Zhao was already a bit impatient.
Though he had long since lost hope of healing his injury, the arrival of Tang Jie reignited a flicker of hope in his heart.
Even though he knew the chances of a cure were slim, as long as there was even a glimmer of hope, he wanted to try. Not just for himself, but for that person-the one he had promised a lifetime to but was left with lifelong regrets.
No matter what, as long as there was a sliver of hope, Uncle Zhao was not going to give up.
“Oh, it’s that matter! Uncle Zhao, there’s no need to rush. What I promised will be done, but I need to prepare some things to treat your injury. I’ll get everything ready tomorrow, so come over to my place tomorrow evening,” Tang Jie replied, remembering the promise he had made to Uncle Zhao upon their first meeting.
“Alright, alright!” Uncle Zhao said, his tone slightly excited.
After hanging up, Tang Jie tossed the black shoulder bag onto the sofa and walked into the bathroom to take a shower.
Tang Jie sat comfortably on the soft sofa, mentally compiling a list as he murmured to himself, “Datura metel, Soul Sever Grass, Abyssal Yew, Poison Arrow Leaf…”
If anyone had been nearby to hear Tang Jie’s utterance of these names, even someone with just a bit of common knowledge would have known that he was talking about extremely poisonous substances.
Just a trace of any one of these could kill a strong adult.
“I wonder if the pharmacies around here even have these medicinal herbs!” After listing out the items he needed, Tang Jie faced a new dilemma.
While these were cures and remedies in his eyes, others might not see them the same way.
After pondering for a while, Tang Jie picked up the phone from the sofa and dialed Uncle Zhao, “Uncle Zhao, I’d like your help in procuring a few things.”
“Tang, what do you need? Just let me know,” Uncle Zhao replied without hesitation.
“I need Datura metel, Soul Sever Grass, Abyssal Yew, Poison Arrow Leaf-those four plants-and also prepare a set of silver needles for me!” Tang Jie listed the toxic herbs he had been muttering about earlier.
“These items are all highly poisonous and might be hard to find in ordinary pharmacies. But since you need them, Tang, I can certainly acquire them. I’m just curious as to why you’d need such toxic substances?” Uncle Zhao expressed his curiosity after a brief pause.
“They’re for treating your illness!” Tang Jie replied with a slight smile, not concealing anything.
“For treating an illness?” Uncle Zhao was taken aback, frowning slightly and feeling a bit shocked. Any one of these poisons, if made into a drug, could be disastrous anywhere.
But in Tang Jie’s hands, they were medicines for healing. Although puzzled, he did not doubt Tang Jie’s intentions.
After all, Uncle Zhao had witnessed Tang Jie’s capabilities firsthand. As an ancient martial arts master who could effortlessly defeat the Viper’s hall master, harming him would require no such elaborate means.
“Alright, Tang, wait for my message. I’ll have all these herbs by tonight at the latest.” With these words, Uncle Zhao hung up the phone, presumably to use his connections to procure the medicinal herbs.
Having delegated the task of acquiring the necessary herbs to Uncle Zhao, Tang Jie enjoyed some leisure time.
The time flew by, and before he knew it, it was 7:30 PM. That was when Tang Jie left the apartment. He had agreed to meet Chen Shuran at Passion Bar at 8:00 PM, and half an hour was more than enough to get there.
Eight o’clock marked the start of the bustling and lively urban nightlife. People who had been busy all day often sought ways to unwind their minds in the dark of night.
Bars were precisely the places beloved by young men and women. A taxi slowly pulled up in front of Passion Bar.
Tang Jie, dressed in a white sporty casual outfit, stepped out of the taxi. His casual attire made him stand out among the young men and women entering and leaving the bar.
In such an entertainment venue, no one typically shows up in sporty casual attire looking for excitement. Moreover, with his appearance, the white sporty casual attire made him look two or three years younger, almost like a junior high school student.
But Tang Jie paid no mind to the curious glances around him. After paying the fare, he headed into Passion Bar.
It was precisely 8:00 PM-not too early, not too late-for Tang Jie.
Just as Tang Jie entered the bar, Chen Shuran arrived, wearing a light blue short-sleeved T-shirt and black shorts. Her bare, fair legs and the clothes that accentuated her curvaceous figure made the men nearby take notice.
However, none dared to strike up a conversation. Setting aside her background and identity, her indifferent and aloof expression, an ice princess demeanor, was enough to deter many admirers.
Only someone like Zhu Nan, who was perhaps overly self-confident, would dare to approach an ice princess like Chen Shuran.
“You’re pretty punctual!” Chen Shuran quickly spotted Tang Jie. As she walked over, she glanced at him and said, “Let’s talk outside.”
Tang Jie was taken aback. So she hadn’t invited him to the bar to be her date? Apparently, there was another matter at hand. Before he could think further, Chen Shuran had already turned to leave. Without hesitation, Tang Jie followed closely behind.
