Demonic King of the Metropolis - Chapter 19 - Close Protection!
After donning his school uniform, Tang Jie casually checked out the materials related to No. 2 High School. Though he was already familiar with the school’s environment, this detailed information provided him deeper insight. Despite the facade of being a public high school, it was actually a private high school. Nonetheless, it held the status of a key high school in the province, with an impressive college admission rate. Many students dreamed of joining their experimental class.
“Tang, you can go directly to the director of the Academic Office at this address. He’ll take care of your enrollment. Just wait to be placed in a class,” Uncle Zhao instructed.
“Okay, I understand,” Tang Jie nodded in response.
He was fully aware that with Chen Jiankai’s wealth and influence, he was a significant figure locally. Otherwise, the unlucky deputy director wouldn’t have fallen so quickly at his hands. A man like him could certainly handle a simple student transfer.
Tang Jie had no concerns. His task was to get close to Chen Shuran and, as per Chen Jiankai’s orders, provide her with close protection, ensuring she wasn’t harmed in any way. For someone like Tang Jie, who was used to being an assassin, this was a unique mission. Initially, it felt a bit unfamiliar, but protecting a girl was a trivial matter for him, not worth worrying about.
When the car reached the gate of No. 2 High School, Tang Jie prepared himself. Before getting out, he specifically asked Uncle Zhao not to come looking for him unless it was important. He preferred to take the bus home after school, to avoid drawing any suspicion. His role as a bodyguard was extremely confidential, and any exposure could lead to complications.
Uncle Zhao readily agreed to this, and in no time, Tang Jie swiftly alighted from the car.
It was still early, and students were gradually entering the campus. Blending into the crowd, Tang Jie transformed into just another ordinary high school student, unlikely to draw any special attention.
Tang Jie had draped over his shoulder a black shoulder bag, the standard-issue school backpack that looked plain and unremarkable. Many of his peers had already switched to more stylish bags, but Tang Jie had no intention of doing so. He wasn’t at school to show off; the more inconspicuous, the better. After all, he wasn’t just there to study; he was on a mission, and he couldn’t afford any slip-ups lest he face the fierce scrutiny of the old man at home.
At this moment, Tang Jie was in high spirits, feeling that school days were bound to be wonderfully enjoyable. After all, this was said to be where many experienced their first love. Perhaps his luck would strike, and he might even find his first love here, especially since No. 2 High School was known for its beauties-a fact he had confirmed the day before.
“Hello, Security Uncle!”
As he passed by the guardroom without any rush, Tang Jie courteously waved to the security guard, who was surveying the crowd through the window like an eagle watching its prey. He greeted him warmly, knowing he’d be spending a considerable amount of time at the school and would inevitably cross paths with the vigilant guard. Establishing a good rapport early on was essential.
“Are you… are you really a student here?! How come I’ve never seen you before?!” The guard’s eyes widened in surprise when he caught sight of Tang Jie.
“Could there be a fake?” Tang Jie replied with a grin, patting his chest confidently, “Guaranteed genuine! But I’ve just transferred here, so it’s normal that you haven’t seen me. I’ve got to go now, but we’ll chat more later!”
His smile was warm, but the security guard couldn’t muster a smile in return, feeling that Tang Jie was shrouded in mystery, unlike a typical student.
After entering the school gates, Tang Jie’s keen eyes quickly spotted fat Zhou, whom he had fooled the previous day, standing with a few boys who looked like hoodlums. Secretly cringing at the coincidence, Tang Jie thought it was indeed a small world. However, he kept his composure and walked confidently toward Zhou and his group, as they were standing in his way to the Academic Office. With Tang Jie’s resilient nature, he wasn’t about to take a long detour for someone like fat Zhou. Thus, he walked straight past them under their watchful eyes and quickly entered the building.
“Huh, Bin-Ge1, why does that kid look so familiar!” one of the boys suddenly exclaimed.
This remark also alerted Fat Zhou, who scratched the back of his head, looking puzzled and thought, “Who is this kid? Why does he look so familiar!”
Watching Tang Jie’s receding figure, Zhou Bin suddenly realized and shouted, “Damn, he’s the kid who messed with Young Master Wang yesterday! Son of a bitch, let’s go beat him up!”
Tang Jie had given him a good beating yesterday morning, and he was still sore all over. Burning with anger, he couldn’t pass up the chance to teach him a lesson when the opportunity had literally walked right up to him.
“Chase!”
With a wave of his hand, Fat Zhou led a group of students, who looked like hoodlums, as they sprinted towards the direction Tang Jie had gone.
“Hey kid, don’t run, stop right there!”
The students shouted as they ran after Tang Jie.
“Ah… why ask for trouble, honestly, are there really so many people in the world who like getting beaten up?” Tang Jie, with his extremely keen hearing, knew they were coming after him as soon as they started running.
Turning around with a look of pity, Tang Jie muttered, “I’ll try to go easy on you guys, won’t make it too painful.”
“You… you damn run!” The students finally caught up and surrounded Tang Jie, panting heavily.
Just then, Fat Zhou also caught up. True to his name, his large body was not suited for physical exertion, and just a bit of running left him drenched in sweat and breathing heavily like a bull.
“I’m exhausted, you made me search hard for you, kid!” Fat Zhou wasn’t much better than the other students, but after catching his breath, he pointed fiercely at Tang Jie and said.
“I don’t owe you money, why are you looking for me!” Tang Jie found the situation amusing as the students were gasping for breath after just a short run, their physical fitness nowhere near his own when he was ten.
“Forgot about yesterday?” Fat Zhou regained his arrogant demeanor, looked at his hoodlum-like companions, and felt more confident. Yesterday was just a fluke, but today, he was determined to regain his pride.
“Yesterday’s incident?” Tang Jie shrugged, looking baffled at Fat Zhou, and said, “What happened yesterday?!”
