Chapter 7
I slept with Gu Haochen, five, six, seven, even eight times in one night.
When we got up in the morning, he looked like he wanted to strangle me. When I pinched his waist, he started howling in pain.
“Our agreement never specified who would have the child,” I reasoned with him. “If you can’t get me into bed, that’s on you.”
“Is it that I can’t? It’s that I don’t want to!” Gu Haochen retorted. “All of me belongs to Tangtang.”
Ha, seventeen or eighteen Tangtangs.
That made me laugh out of anger.
Things got pretty loud last night; everyone in the Gu Family knew.
But the sounds were muffled enough that no one could tell who was in charge.
I got dressed and was about to get up, but Gu Haochen, afraid I’d get up before him and leave him open to criticism, gritted his teeth and tidied himself up neatly, insisting I wait for him so we could leave together.
Wait for him?
I just opened the bedroom door and was immediately met by the curious gazes of Aunt Zhang, Sister Wang, and Aunt Li outside.
Aunt Zhang wasn’t sure how to address me. After thinking it over, she changed her words, “Young Master Du, the old lady said if you’re not feeling well, you can sleep a bit longer.”
“I’m not unwell.”
I smiled brightly, letting them look me over.
Aunt Zhang was shocked, and the three of them all turned their eyes to Gu Haochen, who followed me out: “Young Master…”
“I’m not unwell either,” Gu Haochen said darkly.
The three exchanged glances. “Then…”
The atmosphere froze; no one picked up the conversation.
Aunt Zhang, Sister Wang, and Aunt Li quickly caught on and thoughtfully laid soft cushions on every chair at the dining table.
I sat on a cushion, stared at the bowl of red date, red bean, and brown sugar porridge in my hands, and fell into deep thought.
