Chapter 41
Gu Haochen tried everything he could to delay the downfall of the Gu Family.
He sold everything that could be sold, but he couldn’t borrow any money.
He suddenly realized that not only was he utterly alone, but he didn’t even have any friends left.
He was overwhelmed and had no energy to fight me in a divorce lawsuit.
On the day the Gu Family went bankrupt, I bought the Gu Family villa and had someone bring him back.
He had no other choice; he had already lost everything, and people came after him for debts every day.
To outsiders, it looked like a simple transfer of assets between spouses, but only Gu Haochen himself knew what it really felt like.
He also wanted to take on a few more jobs to show some backbone or whatever.
But I put him under house arrest.
He still took care of the child, and the nurse, family doctor, and the nanny I hired were always around him, but if his cousin wanted to see him, he had to report to me first. If he so much as walked to the villa’s front door, three black-suited bodyguards would politely block his way.
He shouted, made a scene, struggled, but I had ten thousand ways to make him fulfill his marital obligations.
Until he remembered, that was exactly what he had once done to Tangtang.
He finally lost all hope.
“This is a perfect revenge. You and Tangtang have such deep brotherly love, it’s touching.” He half reclined on the living room sofa, his long legs stretched out, clapping his hands to praise me. “What’s your next step? Are you planning to let me die in an accident or from stomach cancer?”
I did seem like I should do that.
But…
“Tangtang isn’t dead.”
Hearing this, Gu Haochen immediately sat up, his eyes wide and round.
“The child is really gone. He faked his death to get away from you.” I watched his expression closely. “I sent him back overseas. He married a university professor, and I sent a wedding gift last month.”
Gu Haochen squeezed his eyes shut twice, and tears streamed down his face.
He covered his face and sobbed uncontrollably. I let him cry for twenty minutes; when his voice was hoarse, he looked at me with eyes red from tears.
“Can I see him again?”
“He said he’ll never see you in this life.”
Gu Haochen gasped for breath, sobbing.
After a moment, he asked me, “Why did you tell me?”
I said to him, “Actually, the first person who saw you playing guitar was me. The hundred yuan and the bouquet-I was the one who told him to give them to you.”
Gu Haochen’s sobbing paused, and the next two choked breaths sounded strange.
I continued, “I was the one who brought up this marriage to the old lady. The reason she agreed was because she believed I could be your other half.”
Gu Haochen couldn’t believe it and asked, “You love me?”
“I’m not sure.”
“I’m antisocial.” I smiled at Gu Haochen.
“When I was twelve, I saw you snatch a chicken leg at a banquet. It’s rare for me to remember someone so clearly.”
Gu Haochen sucked in a breath.
“Du the movie king’s life is all an act, pure performance.”
I hugged him tightly. “What is liking someone, really? I’m not sure either.”
“I was interested in you, so I gladly accepted older brother’s request for revenge. In exchange, he signed the agreement to give up his inheritance.”
“My love and hate for you might all come from imitating Tangtang, but what I’m sure of is that you really made me feel all sorts of emotions-good and bad. That’s truly fascinating.”
Gu Haochen couldn’t figure out how to respond for a long time, and finally just said, “You fucking…”
“I don’t need you to love me. You’ll always only love yourself.” I slipped my fingers into his palm, interlocking our fingers.
“But I’ll keep you tied to my side. That way, you won’t be able to hurt anyone else~”
