Chapter 36
This is a classic tragedy.
A young rich heir hides his identity and falls in love with a poor Beta from the slums. Their romance begins with a rush of hormones, flourishes as they support each other through thick and thin, and inevitably withers away in the end.
When they were abroad, they only had each other, and their feelings were sincere. But the rich heir always had to return to his own circle, while the young Beta gradually lost the person who was his entire world, his spirit declining day by day.
With Gu Haochen’s good family background and looks, he never lacked for choices-whether it was friends from the same circle, the cousin who secretly made things difficult for Du Chutang, or the childhood friend who once had a marriage promise with him in the jokes of adults.
At that time, for the sake of their love, Du Chutang followed Gu Haochen back to their home country. He had staked everything, so he became anxious and sensitive, and somewhat timid.
Because he had seen how Gu Haochen loved with all his heart, Du Chutang quickly noticed Gu Haochen’s growing distance.
Gu Haochen would be away from home for half a month, would lie about working overtime to attend singles parties in his circle, would choose to spend his birthday with his sick cousin instead of Du Chutang, and would end up drunk and tangled up with his childhood friend Wei Lian.
After months of push and pull, Du Chutang discovered he was pregnant.
He stopped struggling and told Gu Haochen about it, hoping to give both of them another chance.
Gu Haochen didn’t seem happy when he heard the news, but he did become more attentive, taking meticulous care of Du Chutang.
But the fundamental conflict between them was never resolved.
Gu Haochen grew more and more impatient.
He said he had stayed by Du Chutang’s side for four years, had never done anything to betray him, had endured so much pressure, and even if he lost everything, he had thought about staying with him until the end.
He said he couldn’t let the Gu Family fall because of him.
“Where else could you find someone better than me? If you hadn’t met me, who knows which drunkard, thief, addict, or vagrant from the slums you’d be with now.”
Du Chutang was completely disappointed.
It turned out Gu Haochen had never thought he was worthy.
After calming down, he didn’t want to say a single extra word to Gu Haochen. He pulled his hand away and left.
But when they met again, Du Chutang had already become a handful of ashes.
There was an accident during the miscarriage surgery, and he died on the hospital bed.
