Chapter 4
The news of Gu’s mother coming over quickly reached my best friend, who hurried over to see me.
“Hey, did your aunt give you a hard time? Are you alright?”
“I’m fine…”
I curled up on the sofa, hugging a pillow, looking at her with a blissful smile.
“Fine?”
My best friend frowned, looking at me with disdain: “Your smile is about to reach your ears.”
Embarrassed, I covered my mouth and laughed.
She blinked, as if suddenly realizing something, her smile spreading across her face:
“What? Did you win over Gu Xuchen?”
Me: …
I was stunned for a moment. I hadn’t expected that just a little warmth from Gu Xuchen would make me this happy, completely forgetting that our progress bar hadn’t moved at all.
“I’ll win him over sooner or later.”
I clutched the pillow, speaking with determination.
But as soon as I said it, I felt uncertain inside.
My best friend saw right through me and whispered, “If it doesn’t work out, just leave quickly. Don’t really get your heart broken.
That guy has never dated anyone since he was a kid. He’s really stubborn.”
Finally,
She added, “Friendly reminder: lust is a double-edged sword.”
I giggled, “With his looks, even if I get hurt, I can handle it.”
“You…”
She was stunned for a moment, so angry she almost wanted to hit me: “You’re blinded by his looks!”
I laughed and dodged, feeling scared inside but refusing to admit defeat.
“Give me his schedule and I can definitely win him over!”
Best friend: …
There’s nothing I can do.
Gu Xuchen’s face is just too tempting for me.
That feeling of seeing the meat but not being able to eat it makes my heart itch.
Gu Corporation.
Wearing a bright red dress, I adjusted my sunglasses, ready to walk elegantly into the elevator, when a hand stopped me.
“Ahem, I’m here to see Gu Xuchen.”
“Sorry, miss, you need an appointment.”
Appointment?
I was a bit confused, wanting to call Gu Xuchen, but worried he was working, so I sent him a message instead.
Unexpectedly, just after I sent it, he called me.
I was so startled I almost dropped my phone, but managed to keep my voice gentle in my panic:
“Hello~”
“I’ll have my assistant come get you.”
My heart leapt with joy, and I couldn’t help but reply softly:
“Ah, okay~ But if I go up, will I disturb your work?”
Gu Xuchen: “If you disturb me, you know the consequences.”
Me: …
I just wanted to act coy and spoiled.
Gu Xuchen’s words were like a bucket of cold water poured over my face.
Suddenly, I lost interest, but when the assistant came down, I still went up with him.
Because he wouldn’t let me go out drinking and clubbing, and as a freelance designer, I didn’t have any projects recently, so I was really free.
I was holding onto my pride, waiting to win him over and finally feel vindicated.
