Chapter 15
The next day.
I slept until ten o’clock. When I woke up, Gu Xuchen was holding me while reading a magazine.
Sunlight poured into the room.
I frowned, feeling a momentary tremor in my heart, but when Gu Xuchen looked over at me, I instinctively averted my gaze and pushed him away.
“Ye Min, do you think we’ll get back together?”
“No.”
I looked at him coldly and answered with certainty.
Gu Xuchen was slightly stunned, and visible sadness flashed across his face.
I combed my hair, opened the wardrobe to look for my clothes, and said indifferently:
“Gu Xuchen, don’t waste your effort. My patience for you has run out.”
“But when you called me ‘husband,’ you meant it, didn’t you?”
Gu Xuchen suddenly asked.
I ignored him, took my clothes and went to change, starting my morning routine at the same time.
To be fair,
With Gu’s mother staying here, Gu Xuchen seemed to have a reason to stay in the bedroom.
This was his house, so I couldn’t say much. I just said quietly:
“I hope when Mom leaves, you can remember what you said before: the bedroom is mine, the study is yours.”
Gu Xuchen: …
Gu Xuchen acted as if he hadn’t heard me. He opened a new toothbrush and cup, then stood behind me brushing his teeth.
One tall, one short, pink and blue cups.
I lowered my eyes, annoyed at how inappropriately matched we looked.
A week later, Gu’s mother left.
I threw out all the bedding and pillows Gu Xuchen had used, and sprayed air freshener everywhere, just to get rid of his unique, crisp scent.
That scent always made my heart flutter.
“You hate me this much.”
Gu Xuchen stood to the side, watching helplessly, anger rising in his eyes:
“Then why did you kiss me in the first place?”
“I don’t like you anymore.”
I lowered my head, hanging up new sheets.
Gu Xuchen gritted his teeth. “Don’t tell me you like that An Yu?”
I was slightly taken aback and glanced at Gu Xuchen, replying calmly:
“Technically, you should call him ‘senior.'”
“Why won’t you deny it?”
A gentle breeze brushed my face. Gu Xuchen stood there, staring at me without moving, frowning:
“I need you to deny my question.”
“Gu Xuchen, I’m not your employee. Stop using that commanding tone with me.”
I kept a straight face and spoke bluntly.
Gu Xuchen pressed his lips tightly together, as if suffering a great grievance he couldn’t express.
I looked at him and said calmly, “Gu Xuchen, you’re just not used to being rejected. You don’t need to chase after me with this rebellious mindset to prove anything.
If you really need proof, that I liked you, to feel satisfied, fine, I’ll tell you: I did like you. Is that enough? Please, just let me be alone.”
After speaking,
I walked straight past Gu Xuchen, but he called out:
“Take out the word ‘did.'”
Me: …
Changing and cleaning had already wasted enough time. I didn’t want to argue, so I went straight back to my room and started my day’s work.
About three hours later,
There was a knock at the door.
I lowered my eyes and ignored it.
Another round of knocking.
I was a bit annoyed, put down my paintbrush, and stormed out, shouting angrily:
“Will you ever stop?”
Maybe I was too fierce.
Gu Xuchen was slightly stunned, his face a bit pale. He opened his mouth, but in the end said nothing.
I glared at him and said coldly, “Please don’t bother me if you have nothing important. I’m very busy.”
With a bang, I slammed the door shut.
I sat back down, my hand holding the paintbrush felt hot, my anger surging. I took a deep breath to calm myself, and slowly began to paint again.
Time ticked by.
My work progress bar was full, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of joy. I stretched lazily, only to find it was already three in the afternoon.
