Brother's Darling - Chapter 1
Xie Siyan looked as though I’d inflicted a terrible insult on him. He tossed a bank card at me and looked away.
I swallowed the ache rising in my chest, got dressed, and pocketed the card. As I reached the door, his cold voice sounded behind me.
“You’re moving to Nanting Residence today. Someone will pick you up.”
“Okay.”
I kept walking.
Outside, Xie Boyu rose from the floor, where he’d kept watch all night. His eyes were bloodshot, his glare vicious.
“Xie Li, I never knew you were this cheap. You actually drugged our brother!”
My head was a mess. I had no time for him and turned to leave, but a hand clamped onto my shoulder, slamming my back into the wall.
“How disgusting can you get? You even crawled into our brother’s bed!”
I knocked his hand away, drew a deep breath, and snapped, “You know perfectly well why I ended up in there, don’t you?”
He shot a panicked glance through the doorway, then leaned close to whisper in my ear.
“So what? You lived my life of luxury for over twenty years. Now you’ve been exposed, and you’ve shamelessly climbed into our brother’s bed. All anyone will see is a stain on the family.
“Does it matter who slipped him the drug?
“I banged on that door all night. If you hadn’t wanted it, why didn’t you push him away and run out?
“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re after.”
The discomfort in my stomach was wearing my patience thin. Despite how awful I felt, I kicked him into the railing.
“Xie Boyu, I haven’t got time to play your real-son, fake-son game. If you’re that bored, get a job.”
He got up clutching his stomach, his face twisted with rage. Then his eyes flicked past me, and his expression changed instantly.
“Brother, I kept trying to stop it, but I couldn’t get anyone to open the door…”
I turned. Sure enough, Xie Siyan had come out of his room.
His gaze skimmed over us, brief and indifferent.
“Don’t make a scene outside my room.”
I lowered my eyes and went downstairs first.
After eating, I returned to my room and collapsed onto the bed, covering my stinging eyes with my arm.
Xie Boyu had put the drug in the milk. He’d probably wanted me to humiliate myself in front of Xie Siyan and disgust him.
Siyan was the one who held the real power in the Xie family now. Everyone knew I wasn’t one of them, but nobody would throw me out unless he said so.
Boyu was afraid he’d go soft on me. He’d meant to drug me, make a spectacle of me, and put Siyan off me for good.
He hadn’t expected me to hand that glass of milk to Siyan instead. Banging on the door all night hadn’t stopped what happened.
Before I got sick, I might have had the strength to push Siyan away and run. But I’d already been feeling ill last night. I couldn’t move him.
So Boyu had still got what he wanted.
