Chapter 3
I understood-he meant I was someone who tailored my approach to the person I was dealing with.
We were all young people with high IQs, so it was inevitable that no one wanted to back down. Disagreements were common. It wasn’t unheard of for things to end on a sour note.
But fortunately, among their pride and ambition, there was me-someone who could get along with everyone.
It was no small feat to put together a group where no one slacked off or shirked responsibility. Such a group was precious.
How could I let it fall apart?
Since I was a child, my parents taught me: when you encounter a problem, solve it. It’s normal to have emotions after a dispute, but the key is to learn to adjust your pace and focus on resolving the issue.
I learned well. In practice, I could not only adjust my own pace, but also help others adjust theirs.
All these years with Qi Dong weren’t for nothing-he saw my strengths.
I beamed at him. “So, according to you, what position am I suited for?”
“Sales Department.”
Sales Department? Not R&D or HR? After all that, not only does this position have nothing to do with my major, it doesn’t seem to match his evaluation of me either.
I couldn’t figure it out and blurted out, “Why?”
Qi Dong replied firmly, “You’re suited to be sent out.”
…
I vaguely felt like he was insulting me.
But as it turned out, I really was suited to be sent out.
After the company was established, I was in charge of B-end sales-a position that truly developed my potential.
I quite liked it, so I cared about it. After getting a definite answer from Qi Dong that he wasn’t affected, I mustered all my strength to give him a smile and said, “Alright, I’m off then.”
Seeing my smile, which looked worse than crying, Qi Dong frowned deeply. “Where are you going?”
“To work.”
“You sure?”
What’s there to be unsure about? “A woman has to get either a man or money, right?”
Qi Dong was momentarily speechless, then waved his hand helplessly to end the conversation.
He indulged my impulsiveness this time and didn’t ask whether I still wanted to finish Li Bin off.
My rationality regained control. Back in the office, I checked my phone. My WeChat was full of comments and messages, piecing together Li Bin’s sneaky affair for me.
The wife is usually the last to know when her husband cheats. The same goes for girlfriends.
There’s never a shortage of people who love drama in life. The photo I posted was for this very moment.
Scrolling quickly through the messages, I soon found someone-Bai Tao, Li Bin’s direct supervisor and Sun Pan’s archrival.
He sent me a message.
“Xiao Chen, how’s your injury? I have a friend who’s a forensic doctor. If you have time, go get a medical exam-he should be able to help.”
Such tough concern, yet so full of warmth.
Bai Tao might as well have said outright that as long as I was willing, he could handle any setup I wanted.
I never expected the first domineering boss in my life to appear because he wanted to take down my ex-boyfriend.
I was quite pleased and replied immediately: “Bai Zong, you’re too kind. Let’s arrange a meal at your convenience.”
Bai Tao was quiet for a while, then replied: “How about the day after tomorrow?”
“Alright, the day after tomorrow at six in the evening. I’ll wait for you at Joy Grand Hotel. Does that work for you?”
“No problem,” Bai Tao agreed.
This is the good thing about our line of work-clients are all friends, and interests always come first.
It’s all a jungle in the workplace. In a place like Li Bin’s, where every position is hotly contested, one misstep and someone will be ready to finish you off.
But taking Li Bin down completely was never my main goal. What I wanted most was for him to be beneath contempt-just like he tried to make me at the Police Station.
