Breaking Up Was a Choice I Planned All Along - Chapter 19
Back in the dormitory, I couldn’t help myself and sent him a message.
“Thank you, be careful not to catch a cold.”
There was no reply for a long time. It wasn’t until I finished my evening self-study, washed up, and lay down in bed that I received his message.
“Thank you for your concern.”
The chat box kept showing “typing,” and soon another message came through.
“Let me introduce myself, I’m Meng Ce from the Financial Management Department at A University. I’m here at B University for a semester exchange, very glad to meet you and be friends.”
There was a kind of earnestness, yet a clumsy cuteness about it. It was as if he wasn’t the same straightforward guy from the afternoon.
Reciprocating the courtesy, I quickly typed back, “Hello, I’m Shen Pianpian from the English Department at B University. Welcome to B University, and I’m very happy to be friends with you.”
The chat box showed “typing” again, then switched back to his name, alternating between the two states.
I exited the chat box and found a few links from my favorites to send over.
“100 Green Tea Tactics”
“How to Identify Brother Bitches”
“Characteristics of White Lotus”
“100 Tea Language Tricks”
He quickly replied with a “?”.
I carefully chose my words, “The world is not peaceful these days, boys should know how to protect themselves when out and about. Learn more, read more, learn how to defend yourself and identify fake friends.”
Especially with your looks, you seem to be a target for all kinds of girls, eager to show off their skills on you.
In less than two seconds, Meng Ce replied, “Thanks, I’ll study them.”
I thought he was just saying it, but fifteen minutes later, he seriously sent over a picture of the notes he had taken.
The handwriting was elegant and strong, just like him, clean and fresh.
Several places were marked with red pen.
“I have some questions I’d like to ask.”
Then we communicated and discussed his questions for nearly half an hour.
I was probably too focused, Yuanyuan called me a few times, but I didn’t hear her. She climbed up from the lower bunk and questioned me, “What are you doing? You’re acting strange.”
The first half was a question, the second half was a statement.
I held up my phone to prove my innocence, “Spreading life knowledge, saving lost lambs.”
Meng Ce’s profile picture was a photo of him holding a trophy with an elder.
Yuanyuan clicked on the profile picture and immediately recognized the guy from the dinner, her tone instantly turned playful, “Not bad, girl, you’ve already added him on WeChat!”
I laughed and shared the afternoon’s showdown between Chen Manman and Meng Ce with her.
She laughed heartily on the bed, then stared at me after a while.
“If you manage to win over the guy Chen Manman couldn’t, what would she think? Wouldn’t she grit her teeth? Wouldn’t she lose face? Wouldn’t she curse you a hundred times in her heart?”
“Isn’t that how novels always write it? The female lead likes a man she can’t have, the man’s eyes are on another woman he can’t have, and the woman’s heart has a white moonlight.”
“Ah, wouldn’t you know it, this white moonlight actually likes the female lead. In the end, the female lead and the white moonlight have a happy ending, while the second male and female lead are left staring blankly. You four, all set.”
I rolled my eyes at her, “No wonder your novels don’t make money.”
She immediately got riled up, “Girl, chatting is one thing, don’t jinx me. My latest passionate work ‘The Sickly Young Master Loves Me’ absolutely has the potential to become a hit, echoing across the Jiangnan region.”
I replied perfunctorily, “Oh.”
Yuanyuan played around on my bed for a while before going back down.
When I opened my phone again, I found that Meng Ce had already sent me quite a few messages.
The last one was a 2-second voice message.
“Are you still there?”
The voice was low and carried a soft, tingling charm.
