Breaking Up Was a Choice I Planned All Along - Chapter 18
We successfully added each other as friends.
Just as I was about to explain the concept of “green tea” to him, my phone rang.
It was a call from Yuanyuan.
Gu Yuanyuan: “Pianpian, are you still in the library? It’s pouring outside! Should I come over and bring you an umbrella?”
Me: “Yes, I’m stuck in the library. You don’t have to come; I’ll wait a bit longer! Maybe the rain will lessen soon.”
Gu Yuanyuan: “Emm, alright then, call me if you need anything.”
Me: “Got it, hanging up now.”
As soon as I hung up, Meng Ce turned his head to ask me, “Are you in a hurry to leave?”
“I’m not really in a hurry, but I have evening classes, and I’m worried the rain won’t stop.”
Meng Ce glanced around and said to me, “Wait here for a moment.”
He then ran up to the second floor of the library, and about five minutes later, he returned with an umbrella adorned with floral patterns.
I looked at the umbrella, which seemed completely at odds with his demeanor. “This is…”
“I borrowed it from a student upstairs.” He walked to the door, opened the umbrella, and turned half his body towards me, saying, “Let’s go.”
It was an inviting gesture, and his tone was overly familiar.
I was momentarily taken aback, and he tilted his head, urging me, “Come on, I’ll walk you.”
I took small steps to get under the umbrella, and together we stepped into the rain.
“Should I walk you back to the dormitory or the classroom building?”
“The dormitory.”
“Which dormitory building are you in?”
“Building 13.”
The umbrella was quite small, barely enough for one person. With two people, both of us ended up half-soaked.
The most disastrous part was Meng Ce’s umbrella-holding skills. He held it perfectly straight in the middle, regardless of the wind direction. And since he was tall, he held the umbrella high.
The fine rain slanted into my glasses, blurring my vision. He remained unperturbed, as if the rain-soaked shoulder wasn’t his.
It was quite puzzling.
I couldn’t help but tug at his shirt, “Hey, could you lower the umbrella a bit? The rain is getting in.”
The rain made everything noisy.
He turned his ear slightly towards me, “What did you say?”
I raised my voice, “I said, could you lower it a bit, the rain is…”
He turned around, bent down, and let out a breathy “Hmm?” from his nose.
The tone was teasing, indescribably alluring.
Our noses were probably only half a fist apart.
After a three-second stare-down, I conceded.
I rubbed the goosebumps on my arms and started walking forward, pretending the previous moment never happened, “Ah, it’s freezing, freezing.”
Someone laughed behind me.
The floral umbrella followed closely.
This time, the umbrella moved with the wind. Meng Ce also deliberately bent down.
Apart from the pressure from his breath behind my ear, everything was just right.
I said goodbye to him at the dormitory entrance, noticing the line of water droplets trailing down his left arm.
