I personally told my parents about my decision.
My mom jumped up from the sofa:
“Do you know that a man like Ah Yan is a rare find?”
“If you let him back into the market, he’ll be snatched up in no time.”
“You’re almost 30, what are you thinking?”
My silent father stepped in just in time.
He gently pushed my chatty mother back into the kitchen.
Amidst the roar of the exhaust fan,
I vaguely heard my father sigh.
He said, “This box of nuts was brought home by our daughter last time, bought by Siyan.”
“They’ve been together for three years, and he still doesn’t remember that our daughter doesn’t eat these nuts.”
“Ah, I think it’s for the best that this engagement is called off…”
