Chapter 13
I sneered, “Why should I? According to the prenuptial agreement, you won’t get a single cent.”
Ding Ning’s face was expressionless. “Then just wait until your company goes public, and the stock price plummets.”
I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white.
Ding Ning continued, “Do you know why, whenever men with any status get divorced, they usually don’t dare to make things too ugly with their wives?”
“Because after so many years of married life, there are too many secrets and pieces of leverage between them. If any of it gets exposed, it’s mutual destruction.”
“Wealthy husbands would rather be generous to their wives financially, to buy themselves freedom and peace for the rest of their lives.”
“Because, in a way, all married couples are accomplices. Don’t you think so?”
Ding Ning didn’t get out of the car with me. She opened the door and walked away first, her high heels clicking on the ground.
I mulled over her words again and again, and in the end, I took her advice.
She really is one of the few accomplices I’ve had in this life, and she deserves to be treated generously.
The one hundred million she asked for could take many forms: company shares, real estate, funds, cryptocurrency, cash… I could just have professionals handle these.
Besides the conditions she proposed, I added one more: to announce a delay in the divorce. We could get the divorce certificate, but wait until everything had completely settled down before making it public.
After all, the company was about to go public, and I couldn’t afford any mistakes.
I don’t know how Ding Ning did it, but even though I didn’t pay Zhao Ben the final payment, he never bothered me again.
It seems she really did, as she promised, take care of it for me.
Fine, as long as it’s settled.
Time to start over and become a new person.
For the rest of my life, I must remember: a virtuous wife means fewer troubles for the husband.
All I wanted was for her to help raise my sister’s child, but she actually refused.
No matter how I tried to persuade her that raising is a greater kindness than giving birth, she just wouldn’t buy it. All my love for her, cherishing her above all else, all those luxury brand bags and jewelry-what a waste.
Marrying her was a total loss!
