Chapter 87
Chapter 87
Su Hua wasn’t satisfied, so she went through every room to check again.
Gu Beixian guessed what she was thinking. At a time like this, stopping her would only deepen the misunderstanding. He did nothing, simply standing back with one hand in his pocket, watching her search from a distance.
She usually did things in a calm, elegant, and composed manner. Today, however, she was scurrying around like a headless fly, completely disregarding her image. Watching her, his heart felt heavy with a complex mix of emotions and a deep sense of pity.
When Su Hua finally stopped, Gu Beixian walked over to her side and asked softly, “Who are you looking for?”
Having not slept all night, Su Hua’s reactions were a bit slow. She didn’t overthink it and had no intention of hiding her thoughts, so she said directly, “I’m looking for Chu Suosuo.”
A helpless smile touched the corners of Gu Beixian’s lips. “You think I spent the night with her?”
“Yes.”
Gu Beixian’s smile grew even more helpless. “If I still had even a shred of interest in her, I would have just divorced you and married her back then. Why would I go through all this trouble to come to Haicheng just to book a room with her?”
Su Hua looked at him quietly. “But last night around ten, I called you and she answered. It’s a fact that she was in your room.”
Gu Beixian frowned. He pulled his phone out of his suit pocket and scrolled through the call logs. He checked everything but couldn’t find the call Su Hua had made. He didn’t even need to think to know that Chu Suosuo must have deleted it immediately after answering.
Gu Beixian’s gaze suddenly turned cold. His grip on the phone tightened. His disgust for Chu Suosuo intensified by several degrees.
Su Hua watched him, the suspicion in her eyes remaining. “Were you two together last night?”
Gu Beixian lowered his eyelids slightly and told her the truth. “Last night, I called my assistant to bring me some documents. My father sent someone to get the room card and the documents from him and gave them to Chu Suosuo so she could deliver them. I happened to be in the shower when she arrived. When I came out and saw her there, I kicked her out as soon as I figured out what was going on.”
Su Hua knit her brows. Her expression remained half-doubting.
Seeing that she still didn’t believe him, Gu Beixian dialed his assistant’s number and ordered, “Send someone to pull the surveillance footage from outside my room. See how long Chu Suosuo was inside and how she left. Once you have it, show it to Su Hua.”
The assistant replied, “Understood, President Gu. I’ll send someone to get it right away.”
Since he was willing to go as far as checking the surveillance, there was naturally nothing going on between him and Chu Suosuo. Su Hua fell silent. Perhaps she really had misunderstood him.
Gu Beixian checked his watch and patted her head. “It’s too late to order a meal now. I’ll take you to the breakfast buffet. After we eat, I have to go to a meeting, and you can come back here to catch up on sleep.”
When she first arrived, Su Hua had been sustained by a surge of stubbornness. Now that she hadn’t found Chu Suosuo, that stubbornness had ebbed away. Without that support, Su Hua felt exhausted, sleepy, drained, and ravenously hungry.
She went to the rooftop buffet with Gu Beixian. She picked out a few delicate pastries, grabbed a cup of hot milk, and sat down to eat.
Gu Beixian brought her a serving of steak and a small bowl of sea cucumber soup, placing them in front of her. “Don’t eat too much sugar. Have some high protein instead.”
Su Hua took the sea cucumber soup and lifted a spoonful to her mouth. Suddenly, a sweet, cloying voice drifted over. “Beixian.”
Su Hua felt her eardrums tighten. Chu Suosuo was walking toward them in high heels, carrying a plate of pastries and swaying her slender waist. She reached the empty seat next to Gu Beixian, pulled out the chair, and sat down as if no one else were there.
Just as she picked up a piece of cake to eat, Gu Beixian glared at her coldly. “Get lost and eat somewhere else.”
The words “get lost” were incredibly blunt. No matter how thick-skinned Chu Suosuo was, she couldn’t quite take it. Her eyes reddened, and she lowered her head, her eyelashes fluttering rapidly.
“Beixian, what exactly did I do wrong to make you despise me so much? We grew up together as childhood friends. You used to dote on me so much; why are you acting like this toward me now?”
A flash of impatience crossed Gu Beixian’s eyes. “I was blind back then. Does that answer satisfy you?”
Those words were far too merciless.
He had even insulted himself in the process.
Chu Suosuo bit her lip, looking as if she wanted to say something but was holding back. She put on an expression of someone desperately enduring a great injustice.
Gu Beixian couldn’t be bothered with her. He said coldly, “Sitting here, you’re really ruining my appetite. If you don’t leave now, I’ll have the bodyguards throw you out.”
Chu Suosuo couldn’t take it anymore. With tears in her eyes, she picked up her tray and left.
Not far away, Gu Aoting walked in, accompanied by his assistant. He found a seat by the window and sat down while his assistant went to get his food.
Seeing Gu Aoting, Chu Suosuo’s eyes brightened. She hurried over to the seat opposite him and set her tray down. She sat there with her head bowed and her eyes downcast, looking like a dejected, pitiful little thing.
Seeing the tears in her eyes, Gu Aoting pulled out a tissue and handed it to her. His usually harsh voice was uncharacteristically kind as he said, “Wipe your tears.”
Chu Suosuo took it and dabbed at her eyes, sobbing softly.
She was naturally delicate and fragile-looking, with a pointed chin, large watery eyes, a slender nose, and small lips. Her features were fine and weak, giving her a brittle, glass-like quality. When she cried, she looked so pitiable that not just men, but even women would feel their hearts ache for her.
Gu Aoting was no exception. Seeing her like this, his heart went out to her. “Did Beixian bully you again?”
Chu Suosuo choked back a sob and whispered, “I’m fine. Uncle Gu, please don’t blame Beixian. It’s really not his fault. He used to be so, so good to me. It’s all my mother’s fault for forcing us apart three years ago. I’m the one who wronged Beixian first.”
The more she spoke like this, the more Gu Aoting felt she had suffered a monumental injustice.
He sighed. “You’re such a good girl, yet that brat doesn’t know how to cherish you. It’s his loss.”
Chu Suosuo gently dabbed the corners of her eyes with the tissue and said, “Uncle Gu, don’t say that. Sister Su Hua is very good, too.”
Gu Aoting felt she was becoming increasingly sensible and reasonable. With a hint of disdain in his voice, he said, “That girl… she’s passable, I suppose. It’s just that her family background is too poor. She’s of no use to our Gu Family.”
Hearing this, Chu Suosuo’s heart, which had just been crushed by Gu Beixian, fluttered back to life.
The assistant brought the food and placed it on the table. Gu Aoting used the serving chopsticks to pick up a large shrimp and placed it on the plate in front of Chu Suosuo. “Unlike you,” he said. “Your father and I have been business partners for years; our interests have long been tied together. I still prefer that you and Beixian get married.”
“Thank you, Uncle Gu. I want to be with Beixian too, but he has such a huge misunderstanding of me right now. He’s even starting to find me repulsive.”
After saying that, Chu Suosuo picked up the shrimp and skillfully began to peel it, completely forgetting her previous claim that she never peeled her own shrimp.
Gu Aoting took a spoonful of porridge and swallowed it slowly. “Don’t worry. I’ll find a way to bring you two together. You love Beixian so much; true lovers will surely find their way back to each other in the end.”
Chu Suosuo kept a calm face, but her heart was blooming with joy. At this point, more than marrying Gu Beixian, she wanted to defeat Su Hua. One day, she would trample that woman under her feet and see if she could still act so smug.
Every love triangle eventually evolved into a contest between two women. A contest that would last a lifetime, ending only in death.
After breakfast, Gu Beixian left to attend the national Building Economy Expo.
Su Hua went back to the hotel suite to sleep. Not long after, the assistant had someone send the surveillance footage from the previous night to Su Hua’s WeChat.
Sure enough, the recording showed that from the moment Chu Suosuo entered the room to the moment she left, less than ten minutes had passed.
Ten minutes wasn’t enough time to do anything, let alone get into bed.
When she left, the footage showed Gu Beixian grabbing Chu Suosuo by the arm and throwing her out. Her expression was hideous, filled with resentment and even a touch of ferocity. It was not the expression one would have after a tryst.
Su Hua fast-forwarded the surveillance footage.
She watched the video three times in a row before finally exiting the app.
Setting her phone down, Su Hua let out a sigh of relief and smiled. It was a good thing she had rushed over through the night; otherwise, this misunderstanding would have been catastrophic.
Recalling Chu Suosuo’s arrogant, provocative face from the previous night, Su Hua found it utterly hideous. The heavy stone that had been weighing on her heart was finally lifted.
Feeling lighthearted and free, Su Hua went to the bathroom for a quick shower and then climbed into bed to sleep.
Three hours later.
Gu Beixian finished his meeting.
Just as he was about to leave the venue, he sent a message to Chu Suosuo: “Meet me in the underground parking lot.”
Chu Suosuo was stunned when she received the message. It had been a very long time since Gu Beixian had taken the initiative to message her.
For a moment, she felt a bit apprehensive, unsure of what he wanted. At the same time, she couldn’t help but feel a spark of hope.
Women were prone to self-deception and fantasy, especially regarding those they had once loved. No matter how much he had hurt her, as long as he beckoned, she couldn’t resist gravitating toward him.
Chu Suosuo was no exception. Regardless of how worldly and calculating she was, she was only twenty-two years old after all.
Before the meeting even ended, she left early and went to the restroom to carefully touch up her makeup. Once she was ready, she headed down to the underground parking lot to wait.
Gu Beixian had arrived at the venue in a private hotel car, which made it easy for Chu Suosuo to find. She stood by the vehicle, waiting.
After a while, she noticed a business van not far away rocking rhythmically. She could faintly hear a woman’s suppressed cries-sounds that seemed to oscillate between pain and ecstasy.
Chu Suosuo stared for a moment before suddenly realizing what the people inside were doing. Her heart began to thud against her ribs, and her face and ears flushed red.
She couldn’t help but fantasize about doing the same with Gu Beixian. Despite being childhood sweethearts for so long, they had never actually crossed that final line. Thinking of his long, powerful legs, she imagined he would be quite vigorous. Then there were his firm, strong abs and that irrepressible masculine charm.
She began to lose herself in the longing, her body gradually growing restless and flushed.
Before long, she saw a tall, slender figure approaching from the distance. Dressed in a dark, high-end suit, he looked as elegant as a jade tree, his long legs moving with a brisk, powerful stride.
Gu Beixian had arrived.
The lighting in the underground parking lot was dim, making his handsome, sharp features stand out like a sculpture amidst the flickering shadows. Chu Suosuo’s heart skipped a beat, then began to race like a drumroll.
He hadn’t brought his assistant or his bodyguards. He had come alone.
Why would he come to meet her alone? Chu Suosuo couldn’t stop her imagination from running wild.
As Gu Beixian drew closer, Chu Suosuo’s excitement peaked. She stood on her tiptoes and waved at him, her voice dripping with sweetness as she called out, “Beixian, I’m over here!”
Her voice was as thick and cloying as honey.
Gu Beixian’s expression was cold and stern as he walked up to her with large strides.
Chu Suosuo looked at him with eyes full of desire, her gaze lingering on him. “Beixian, did you kick me out of your room last night because there were cameras in the hotel and it wasn’t convenient?”
Gu Beixian remained expressionless and gave a curt, noncommittal hum.
It was just as she had expected. Chu Suosuo felt a surge of secret joy. No matter how much a man loved his wife, he could never truly forget his ex-girlfriend. As her mother always said, there wasn’t a cat in the world that wouldn’t go after a taste of fish.
Chu Suosuo placed a hand over her heart and glanced around. “The underground parking lot is indeed more secluded,” she whispered mysteriously. “And more thrilling.”
The corners of Gu Beixian’s lips curled into a cold, mocking smirk, but he didn’t respond.
Taking his silence for tacit agreement, Chu Suosuo reached out to wrap her arms around his waist, calling his name with a heat that bordered on desperate. “Beixian-”
Suddenly, a sharp crack rang out!
Chu Suosuo felt a searing pain explode across her face!
Gu Beixian had raised his hand and delivered a brutal, stinging slap to her cheek!
The turn of events was so sudden that Chu Suosuo was left dazed. Clutching her face, she stared at the man in front of her in utter disbelief. “Beixian… you hit me?”
