Chapter 5

Finally, I confirmed with Professor Li that I would leave in about a month.

Back home, I took out the wine from the cabinet and started gulping down one glass after another.

Just one more month, and I could leave completely.

My best friend Mo Shu sent a WeChat message:

“How was it? Was the candlelight dinner romantic?”

“I told you, Fu Shen loves you so much. Just a little effort on your part, and you’d definitely win him over.”

Everyone said Fu Shen loved me deeply, and I used to think so too.

Turns out, if a man wants to pretend to love, he can fool everyone.

I glanced at the ring on my ring finger and gave a self-mocking smile.

This was the ring Fu Shen bought for me after three months of delivering food.

At that time, he and his friends had just started a business, and all the money was invested in the new company.

To buy me a decent ring, he worked at the company during the day and delivered food at night.

He slept less than three hours a day.

Once, he was so tired that he dozed off while riding his electric scooter and crashed onto the road.

Luckily, a passing car braked in time, or the consequences would have been unimaginable.

When I rushed to the hospital, his hands and feet were covered in blood, and his clothes were stained red.

Seeing me, Fu Shen immediately hid his injured hand behind his back.

With tears in my eyes, I asked him why he did all this.

He clumsily wiped away my tears, “Silly, of course, it’s because I want to marry you as soon as possible.”

“What if such a beautiful girl gets taken away? Now that you’re mine, I can’t bear to let you go.”

Later, we made a lot of money, and our financial situation improved.

But I always wore this ring.

Fu Shen once said he wanted to get me a bigger diamond ring, but I refused.

In my heart, it was more precious than any diamond ring.

Remembering how nervous Fu Shen was when he proposed, I took off the ring and placed it on the dining table.

His words from back then still echoed in my ears.

But he was no longer the person he was then.

This ring, I no longer needed it.
