Chapter 13
The next day, I boarded a plane to Shanghai.
Professor Li had a five-day academic forum in Shanghai. He didn’t have the time to attend, so he asked me to go in his place.
I wanted to get away for a bit, so I agreed.
During those five days, I learned a lot and met many prominent figures in the industry.
I felt fulfilled and, surprisingly, didn’t think of Fu Shen even once.
See, love isn’t that important to a person after all.
There are many more meaningful things in life waiting for me to do.
The day after I returned, I went straight to work at the hospital.
As soon as I got off work, I saw Fu Shen standing not far away.
He was leaning against a black Maybach, a cigarette in hand, his clothes disheveled, and his face haggard.
A male colleague who left work with me leaned over and whispered in my ear, “This guy has been waiting here for several days. I heard he asked the security guard about you, found out you weren’t working, and has been waiting outside every day.”
After speaking, he looked at me worriedly, asking if I needed help.
I shook my head to indicate no, and just as I was saying goodbye, I saw Fu Shen walking towards me.
As he got closer, I noticed his eyes were bloodshot, clearly from lack of sleep for several days.
His face was covered with stubble, which was almost impossible for someone like him who used to have a slight obsession with cleanliness.
“You’re really something, finding your next target so quickly?
“I just wonder what they’ll think when they find out you have a husband of ten years.”
“Fu Shen, maybe ten years seems long to you, but to me, ten years is nothing.”
Not getting the reaction he wanted, Fu Shen seemed a bit broken.
“Jiang Wan, do you think that by disappearing for a few days, you could see me going crazy with worry for you?”
“Unfortunately, you’ll be disappointed. I didn’t call you once these past few days. You can ask your friends; I didn’t even ask them where you went.”
“Then what are you doing here now?”
