After I Was Gone, Mr. Song Said He Loved Me - Chapter 11 - You're Not the First PR
When I heard Luo Yewen had come to pick me up, I was so excited I almost cried, quickly snatching up my clothes and running over.
“Let’s go,” I said, hunching over and shivering.
Luo Yewen glanced at me, then nodded slightly to President Wu and the others, and helped me leave the private room.
As we left, President Wu looked displeased but didn’t say anything else. After all, Luo Yewen was representing Song Yu, and he wasn’t foolish enough to cause a scene over someone like me.
Once outside, I leaned against the wall trying to steady myself as I pulled on my pants and jacket, and asked Luo Yewen, “How long were you standing out there?”
I never believed in coincidences. The only explanation for him appearing just in time to stop President Wu and the others was that he had been outside all along.
Luo Yewen paused before replying, “About half an hour, I guess.”
I laughed; it was just as I thought. If he hadn’t heard me scream, he might have let those people continue harassing me.
Regardless, I was relieved to have escaped without harm.
I followed Luo Yewen through a hedge-lined yard towards the car. Perhaps it was the wind, but my head grew fuzzier, and my stomach churned, pushing up food and drink.
I rarely vomit from drinking, usually just making frequent trips to the toilet. However, this time I couldn’t control the nausea. Just as I opened the rear car door, I bent over and retched.
“Mr. Bai, are you alright?” Luo Yewen asked, turning towards me from the driver’s seat.
“…I’m fine,” I muttered, climbing into the car, then collapsing onto the seat.
Luo Yewen didn’t say more and started the car.
“Where… are we going?” I asked, my eyes closed, barely conscious.
“Back to the Hilton.”
Hearing we were going back to the hotel, I somewhat revived and managed to prop myself up, protesting, “Why go back to the hotel? I want to go home.”
My job was done, and all I wanted was to return to my small apartment, take a hot shower, and curl up in bed to sleep.
I was miserable. My head felt like it was being run over by countless trains, my heart thudded painfully, and my stomach twisted in agony.
Luo Yewen glanced at the rearview mirror and said indifferently, “President Song wants to talk to you.”
“Can’t it wait until tomorrow? I need to-ugh-” I cut off, retching again.
Luo Yewen quickly steered the car to the side of the road, probably afraid I would vomit inside.
“No worries, I usually don’t throw up when I drink,” I said, leaning back in my seat, looking weak.
Ignoring me, Luo Yewen reached into the glove compartment in front of the passenger seat, took out a bottle of LiKe, opened it, and handed it to me.
I glanced at the small brown bottle in his hand, then at the glove compartment.
Wow, there must be at least twenty bottles of LiKe there.
“Thanks, you’re really considerate,” I said, taking the LiKe from him and complimenting him.
If he weren’t Song Yu’s assistant, I’d wonder if he had feelings for me.
“It’s nothing; you’re not the first one like this,” Luo Yewen said expressionlessly.
I paused in my drinking.
“There were two before you.”
“Also Song Yu’s… personal public relations?”
“It’s President Song!” Luo Yewen corrected me.
“Why didn’t they continue?” I asked, looking at him eagerly.
“Because they fell for the boss.”
…
Hearing this, I nearly spit out the antidote.
Seeing my surprised expression, Luo Yewen frowned and asked, “Is it that unbelievable?”
“The boss is handsome and wealthy, and he’s quite generous. It’s normal for them to fall for him.”
Suddenly, I remembered the night I met Song Yu at Royal Dynasty, that beautiful boy…
Could he be one of them?
His tearful, desperate look suggested as much.
“They just forgot what they were there for, fantasizing about being close to the boss,” Luo Yewen remarked with a cold laugh.
I looked down silently and didn’t respond.
What Luo Yewen said was true; Song Yu was indeed a very charming man, but he was also extremely rational and clear-headed, as shown by the extra five hundred thousand he paid me, clearly distinguishing professional from personal feelings.
“Feeling better now?” Luo Yewen asked.
I snapped back, “… a bit better.”
Once he saw I was okay, Luo Yewen restarted the car.
I slumped in the seat, my mind a blur with the events of the evening, but what I couldn’t shake was the image of Song Yu decisively following me out…
If what President Fu had said was true, then Nian Hua must be Song Yu’s first love. No wonder he couldn’t forget him.
Unexpectedly, Song Yu was quite the romantic.
But his body didn’t seem to cooperate.
That must be a rich man’s problem.
With these thoughts, I drifted off into a dazed sleep.
I was awakened by Luo Yewen shaking me, “Mr. Bai, we’ve arrived.”
I rubbed my throbbing head and sat up slowly, looking up to see the Hilton building.
I had no idea what Song Yu wanted from me.
With Luo Yewen’s help, I got out of the car, but as soon as my feet touched the ground, I vomited spectacularly, drawing stares from passersby.
Startled, Luo Yewen quickly asked if I was okay.
I covered my mouth, looking extremely pained, and gestured urgently towards the hotel, indicating we should hurry to my room.
Yes, any later and I’d throw up everything I’d eaten tonight.
Luo Yewen got the message and hurriedly helped me inside and straight to the elevator.
At my room door, Luo Yewen asked if I needed more help. I shook my head mournfully, then darted into the room and locked the door behind me, rushing to the toilet without even taking off my shoes, and began to vomit violently until there was nothing left but a thin yellow bile.
Mostly bile.
After the bile was gone, I collapsed on the floor tiles, too weak to even move a finger.
Baijiu really isn’t fit for human consumption.
“Song Yu, that bastard, couldn’t he have… have blocked some of it for me…”
“Engineers are human, I… I’m not, damn it…”
“My stomach… hurts too…” I muttered pitifully, my eyelids growing heavier, until I finally fell asleep.
…
Yet, in my daze, it felt like someone was undressing me, removing my clothes and pants, and then I seemed to sink into a warm ocean, far more comforting than the hard, cold floor.
I sighed unknowingly.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot up my spine to my brain, and I abruptly opened my eyes to find myself naked in the bathtub, with Song Yu sitting nearby, wiping his wet fingers with a towel…
