Chapter 10
The ruler of the Ghost Realm is contested once every century.
Yet the current Ghost King, Qing Xuan, has held the position for a millennium due to his immense power.
I thought Jay would take me directly to Qing Xuan, but unexpectedly, he led me first into the Ghost Market.
Amidst the revelry of countless ghosts and the bizarre, endless streets, there appeared a tranquil residence.
Red lanterns hung at the entrance, and inside, a wedding hall was arranged.
Jay glanced around and then turned to me with a light smile:
“Since everything is ready here, why don’t we have a wedding for fun?”
Ghosts don’t have heartbeats, but for a moment, I felt my chest pounding.
I knew that after being together for so long, he might have some affection for me, or perhaps he wanted to make me happy, but–
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Your true love is Miss Yunxi. Even if she is no longer here, you shouldn’t marry someone else, not even for fun.”
I continued with difficulty,
“I… I just want to stay by your side.”
Jay’s throat moved slightly, and suddenly he pulled me into his embrace.
His firm chest had never heaved so intensely before.
I wanted to look up at him, but he held me tighter.
After a long while, Jay finally let go of me, his face showing a nonchalant smile:
“I didn’t expect you to have so many rules, little ghost. Let’s go then.”
Feeling a vague unease, I gripped his hand tightly.
Soon, we arrived at the Mirror Palace of No Return.
This is the place with the heaviest Nine Nether aura, and also the site of the Ghost King’s contest.
As I stepped forward to take the ghost token, the palace doors opened.
Countless curious and excited ghosts followed us into the Mirror Palace of No Return to watch the battle.
A deep laughter echoed from the front of the grand hall:
“Lord Jay, is this the little ghost you’ve brought? Isn’t it a bit too tender?”
Jay clicked his tongue lightly:
“Qing Xuan, you haven’t been challenged for six hundred years. Are you afraid of the newcomers?”
Their tone was familiar, clearly old acquaintances.
Only then did I understand why the wedding residence appeared in the Ghost Market.
Qing Xuan stood up from his throne:
“Such boastful words, but for your sake, I’ll leave this little ghost a way out.”
I looked up and smiled at Jay: “Don’t worry, I won’t embarrass you.”
Jay gazed at me for a long moment, then released my hand:
“Alright, go ahead.”
