Chapter 8
Mentioning my mom made me pause.
If there’s anyone who least wants me to divorce Zhou Jingcheng, it would be my mom.
Zhou Jingcheng and I started working hard together at the age of seventeen.
During the toughest times, we shared a single box of lunch.
Zhou Jingcheng would pick out all the meat for me.
In the dead of winter, Zhou Jingcheng rode a motorcycle to carry passengers and save money.
He was frugal for himself but bought me a ring.
“Although it’s just a plain ring, someday, I’ll give you a bigger and brighter diamond.”
We once lived together in a cramped basement of only a few square meters.
With no heating in winter, we could only keep warm by holding each other tightly.
When summer came, it was so hot that Zhou Jingcheng took me to sleep in the park.
My mom saw all of this.
She felt sorry for me and sold all her belongings to help Zhou Jingcheng start his business.
When Zhou Jingcheng earned his first fortune, he bought a large apartment in the city center, with constant temperature control.
In front of my mom, he swore to treat me well for life.
My mom was moved to tears and only said one thing.
“You must take good care of each other in the future.”
I once held hope, believing that life had something to look forward to.
But in just two or three short years, everything changed beyond recognition.
Zhou Jingcheng cheated.
My mom was diagnosed with cancer.
The annual treatment costs hundreds of thousands.
If it weren’t for Zhou Jingcheng’s support, I might have lost her long ago.
But now…
“No need to trouble you. Thank you.”
I politely and distantly ended the meeting, opened the door, and left.
