A Tattoo That Can't Be Removed - Chapter 6
In the days that followed, I never saw the red McLaren again.
Sometimes Wei Yan still didn’t come home, claiming it was due to work. As the days passed, it seemed like our relationship was warming up a bit.
Tonight, when he came back, he brought a small cake.
“I thought you forgot.”
“How could I forget my sweetheart’s birthday?”
As autumn deepened, the wind grew particularly strong. He lowered his head, letting me untie his tie, teasing me lightly.
The cake had some crooked writing on it, saying “Happy Birthday to my sweetheart.”
“That’s so ugly. Did you write it yourself?”
“Don’t complain, just make a wish.”
He turned off the lights in the house, leaving only the flickering glow of the candle.
I never believed in this sort of thing before, but looking at the person across from me, my heart couldn’t help but be stirred.
After blowing out the candle, a torrential rain began outside the window.
The paper plate wobbled in his hand a hundred times before he finally used it to hold the sliced cake.
“Blueberry, strawberry, mango, which one do you want?”
His cake-cutting skills were terrible, and honestly, the cake didn’t look good either.
I couldn’t help but ask him:
“Did you make all of this yourself?”
He nodded, a soft and ticklish sound.
No wonder he’s been coming home late recently.
Just as I was about to take a bite and taste what he could make, the doorbell rang furiously.
Someone was pressing it non-stop, with hurried intervals of knocking. I frowned and yanked the door open.
Outside stood a woman soaked to the skin, her face almost ghostly pale, yet her features were strikingly vivid.
She wasn’t wearing makeup, just a bare face, but there was no trace of disarray.
“Wei Yan, Wei Yan, are you there? The rain outside is so heavy, can I come in and sit for a while?”
She looked past me into the house, as if she couldn’t see me, even trying to step right in.
I pushed her back, “Who are you?”
“Qin Chuchu, Wei Yan’s girlfriend.”
She smiled at me until Wei Yan emerged from behind me, his face cold.
“Oh, ex-girlfriend now.”
“…”
“Please leave now.”
I raised my voice, feeling my anger boiling over.
But her expression shifted effortlessly between arrogance and pitifulness, her eyes fixed on the person behind me.
“But the rain outside is so heavy, and… I have a stomach condition.”
“Even so…”
“Let her come in.”
The rain was so loud, yet I heard Wei Yan’s voice clearly.
I turned to look at him, unable to believe he could say that so easily.
“What did you say?”
“He said let me in, are you deaf?”
Qin Chuchu cheerfully brushed past me, even bumping into me.
Wet rainwater splashed onto the floor I had just mopped, and for a moment, I felt my blood rush to my head.
“Why did you let her in?”
I wanted to raise my voice, but found it trembling with a hint of tears, and at this moment, that woman was still smiling.
“She really does have a stomach condition, can’t be in the rain.”
The room wasn’t well lit, I couldn’t see Wei Yan’s expression.
But he stood right in front of me, unmoving, his simple explanation making his stance clear.
“She’s always had health issues, just think of it as sheltering an innocent passerby, okay?”
It was obvious whose side he was on.
I opened my mouth, unsure of what to say.
The rain outside seemed heavier than before, the sudden surge of bitterness almost suffocating me, yet Qin Chuchu kept fanning the flames.
I stared at him, he lowered his eyes, the light shining in, he didn’t back down.
I understood, he hated her, they broke up years ago, I was standing right in front of him, but he was determined to protect her.
“Fine, I’m healthy, so I’ll just go out and get soaked in the rain.”
Finally, I gritted my teeth and said to him, word by word.
That day, without a second thought, I rushed into the curtain of rain.
He suddenly called my name from behind, followed by Qin Chuchu’s louder shout.
Telling him not to leave.
