Chapter 9
We said a quick goodbye that night.
I couldn’t smell it, nor did I understand the deeper meaning, thinking he was still jealous of Song Qiao.
I could only explain that it was probably rubbed off during the hug and would be gone after a shower.
So I scrambled back to shower.
For the next few months, Jian Yu acted as if nothing had happened, which made me marvel at his magnanimity.
One day, my sister called me over, saying I should start thinking about marriage.
Me: Marriage? Me?
“Sis, are you kidding? You’re not even married yet, and you’re already pressuring me?”
I paused, then cautiously asked, “Is our family going bankrupt?”
My sister didn’t answer, only saying, “Marry as soon as possible, or at least start dating.
“Anyway, you figure something out. Before that, stay out of trouble. I’ll find someone to keep an eye on you.”
I thought the person she’d find would be at least a seven-foot tall giant, or at least like Sylvester Stallone.
Who knew the person who came to find me was a rather delicate-looking young man named Qin.
He was slender too. What could he possibly keep an eye on me for?
I didn’t understand my sister’s intention, so I just let him follow me.
Therefore, when I came to see Jian Yu, there was an extra person in his office.
I explained Xiao Qin’s background to him.
“Qin? The Qin family? Heh.” He gave a half-smile, “An Omega?”
I only focused on the fact that he was a man and forgot to ask his specific gender.
I still couldn’t fully accept the common knowledge here.
Turning to verify, Xiao Qin nodded slightly.
Following the conversation, I continued to ask:
“How old are you?”
The boy seemed a bit shy, “I’m 23.”
I “oh”-ed, “A student? Being a student is great.”
Perhaps he read some deeper meaning into my words, “Hmm,” he hummed, quite bashfully.
I asked again, “Do you have any plans tonight?”
The boy’s eyes lit up, “No, no, I have no plans tonight.”
“That’s great,” I nodded, about to speak, when I heard Jian Yu say:
“Lin Dong, if you want to interrogate someone, do it outside, not in my office.”
I figured he had a point. He was probably busy with work, and I shouldn’t bother him with an outsider.
“Let’s go, Xiao Qin,” I said.
The moment the door closed, I thought I heard something fall to the floor.
A hallucination?
