Chapter 2
There was silence on the other end. Whether it was my imagination or not, I seemed to hear his breathing quicken.
After a brief thought, I understood:
“Aha, so you guys went singing in the latter half of the night and didn’t take me?”
No loyalty, those guys. If I hadn’t helped him block drinks, I wouldn’t have been able to make it to the second round.
“Next time you have to take me, okay? I’ve never even heard you sing before, but you really went all out, your voice sounds like Donald Duck.
“I’ll make you some pear soup this afternoon. Remember to help me find that person.”
Hanging up, I remarked on how succinct he still was.
After a few years of knowing him, I was used to it. Even though Jian Yu was a man of few words, he was still very reliable.
He was the male lead, after all.
I first met Jian Yu in high school.
At that time, I had just transmigrated. Although I hadn’t read many novels, I quickly made a strategic decision:
Become brothers with the male lead, and then ride on his coattails, enjoying a life of luxury.
After all, usually male leads were cool, arrogant, and had everything – money, power, people.
Back then, Jian Yu was quiet and aloof. No one was close to him, and hardly anyone even spoke to him.
The aura of a king, truly worthy of being the male lead.
Soon, I took the first step in our friendship: “Brother, did you understand what the teacher said in class? Could you explain it to me?”
As soon as I spoke, the surroundings fell silent.
Jian Yu looked up, his tone devoid of emotion:
“Are you talking to me?”
My face changed. I pointed at him and cautiously looked at the others:
“Can you guys see him?”
He frowned, seemingly not understanding my line of questioning.
But seeing everyone’s reactions, I realized they could see him.
I immediately let out a sigh of relief: “You scared me to death. The way you said that, I thought you were a ghost. I was thinking, no wonder no one talks to you.”
Another series of gasps rippled through the room. I was confused: usually, they were pretty normal, why were their reactions so strange today?
Could it be that his grades were actually terrible, and my question hit a sore spot?
I scratched my head: “It’s fine, no shame in it. I’ll ask someone else. Once I understand, I’ll explain it to you.”
Just as I was about to leave, I heard him say, “Sit down.”
I looked at him, puzzled, so he added another sentence:
“I’ll explain it to you.”
