Chapter 13
A few days later, Jian Yu sent out many invitations, seemingly for an important announcement.
I specially changed into a suit, turning this way and that in front of the mirror, but it just didn’t feel right.
Like a salesman.
Who knew that when I arrived at the venue, it wasn’t me who was stopped, but Xiao Qin.
The two burly men were unyielding: “You haven’t been invited.”
“We’re together,” I quickly stepped forward to explain.
However, the staff didn’t buy it: “The Qin family did send invitations; he needs to show the Qin family’s invitation.”
I froze. Was that how it worked?
Also, they were incredibly professional. Did they really recognize the faces of so many attendees?
Seeing Xiao Qin’s troubled expression, I sighed:
“Never mind then, let’s go, Xiao Qin.”
Hearing me say that, the two men showed panicked expressions:
“Wait a moment, Mr. Lin, we had no intention of stopping you. Of course, you can enter.”
I waved my hand: “It’s fine, it’s fine. I’ll tell Jian Yu later that I’ll be a bit late. Don’t worry, it’s not your fault.”
As I said that, I looked at Xiao Qin: “Sorry, I didn’t get it clear before bringing you here. Let’s go, I’ll take you back first.”
The two staff members were about to say something when a familiar voice called out:
“What’s wrong?”
Jian Yu approached: “Why aren’t you going in?”
I briefly explained the situation to him. He thought for a moment and said, “I see, it’s not a big problem. Since you brought him, he can certainly come in.”
However, it wouldn’t look good for an exception to be seen by others. So, Jian Yu and I entered the venue together, and Xiao Qin would be escorted by staff through another entrance later.
As we stepped into the venue, and I noticed everyone’s gazes, I realized something was off.
I turned to look at Jian Yu, then down at myself.
“Miscalculation. I shouldn’t have come in with you.”
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
I elbowed him, “You look so handsome in a suit, wouldn’t I look even more like a salesman next to you?”
He chuckled, “Nonsense.”
I added, “You go about your business, I’m going to see where Xiao Qin is.” With that, I went to look for him.
After circling once and not seeing him, I was about to pull out my phone to text him when someone patted my shoulder.
“Lin Dong, congratulations, now you and Jian Yu are already…” He raised an eyebrow, “Today’s announcement is about this, right?”
Seeing his slightly mischievous expression, I rolled my eyes, “What are you talking about? What’s wrong, is your eye twitching?”
But I did have something I wanted to ask him:
“Do you remember our gathering last time?”
Who was it that night?
I asked Jian Yu to help me check, but there had been no update.
After getting his affirmative reply, I asked the question, but the other person’s reaction was very strange.
“Who took you home that night?”
The person looked at me in surprise: “What are you talking about? Wasn’t it Jian Yu?”
Me: “?”
“No way, you must have been too drunk and misremembered. Jian Yu left in the middle to take me home, so how could he have gone singing with you guys in the latter half?”
“…”
In his silence, my smile gradually stiffened.
“The drink you took to shield him was drugged. You were unconscious, but at that time, only Jian Yu could have taken you away.
“You didn’t let anyone else near you at all.”
So that person was…
No, brother.
In immense shock, I could only utter two words:
“Holy crap.”
