Chapter 11
Look at the time, he must have been so busy today, no wonder he seemed so agitated back then.
Luckily, I didn’t bother him later.
Jian Yu closed the trunk. From my angle, I couldn’t see what was inside.
He walked to the car door: “Why are you here?”
I couldn’t believe it: “No way, big brother, don’t tell me you forgot, it’s your birthday today.
“Get in the car, we’re going to Haidilao. I specially borrowed Xiao Qin’s student discount.”
I even paid Xiao Qin double wages to give him the day off.
Can’t have him bringing someone he doesn’t know to his birthday.
Unfortunately, Jian Yu was extremely low-key, declining the offer to have the staff help celebrate.
He took the sliced cake: “It reminds me of the first time I celebrated my birthday.”
Me: “You celebrated your birthday at Haidilao when you were so young?”
Impressive, really.
“…” He sighed helplessly, “I mean, my real birthday.”
“The first time you celebrated my birthday with me.”
Jian Yu’s ID card did not show his real birthday.
That year, Jian Yu’s mother died in childbirth. His father not only openly brought his illegitimate son, Jian Sheng, back, claiming they were fraternal twins, but also changed Jian Yu’s birthday to be the same as Jian Sheng’s.
After Jian Yu unexpectedly learned about it, many previous confusions were explained.
Even if only to cover up this scandal, they would never celebrate his real birthday.
After knowing this, I put my arm around his neck: “Say something nice, how about I celebrate with you?”
He then looked as if he wanted to speak but hesitated, eventually uttering two words:
“Please.”
I froze, scared, and let go of him.
Everyone knew that when someone acted that way, they either wanted to hear “Godfather” or “Get lost.”
But thinking that he didn’t have many friends, it seemed quite reasonable.
What a sincere child.
So I patted him on the shoulder and seriously said:
“Then on your birthday, how about I take you to Haidilao? My treat.
“I guarantee I’ll make up for all the birthday wishes you’ve never heard in your life.”
He said yes.
But no one expected that before that, he had an accident.
He fell down the stairs, breaking his left leg.
I had considered sneaking him out, but Jian Yu refused, so I had to give up.
On Jian Yu’s birthday night, I called him:
“Jian Yu, look out the window.”
The sound of curtains being drawn.
“I’m looking, what’s up?”
My voice softly said, “Happy birthday.”
As soon as the words fell, a sharp whistle sounded, echoing through the sky.
Flames rose, exploding into brilliant colors.
It wasn’t over, one, two, three…
The night view outside the window was a painting framed by the window.
Now I filled the canvas with fireworks for him.
