A Marriage of Vengeance - Chapter 32
Chapter 32
Hearing this, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. “How much? You really have the nerve to ask. On what grounds?”
Shen Jincheng glanced at the Bodyguard standing nearby and straightened his back. “On the grounds that back then, you brought Lu Junrong to our home and burned Bai Hezhi’s university admission notice. Aren’t you afraid your fans will find out you once committed such a wicked act to ruin someone’s future?”
I shook my head, smiling. “I’m really not.”
Shen Jincheng was enraged by my nonchalant attitude. He slammed his fist onto the coffee table. “Back then, I was reported by an anonymous letter. At first, I thought it was some jealous colleague. Later, I used my connections to get the original letter and checked with the post office many times. I confirmed the letter was sent from S City.”
“To get to Gangcheng, one must pass through S City first! So, you were the one who sent that letter. First, you ruined someone’s future, and then you persecuted your ex-husband. Retribution will find you!”
I looked down at myself. “But I’m doing perfectly fine right now.”
Shen Jincheng’s eyes narrowed. “Aren’t you afraid I’ll leak all this to the media?”
“Be my guest.”
I leaned back on the sofa. “I’ve had all sorts of filth thrown at me over the years; this is nothing. If you want to leak something, let’s do it together. Maybe when my fans see how ruthlessly I handle a scumbag and his mistress, I’ll gain even more followers.” Shen Jincheng choked on his rage, gasping for breath.
Finally, his posture collapsed, and he took on a pleading look. “Even if you hate me, Shen Yuqing was raised by you. The child has a scar on her face-how is she supposed to live the rest of her life!”
“I’m not afraid of losing face anymore, so I might as well tell you everything.”
“In my past life, after you left, I married Bai Hezhi. She was a total slut. She was used to squandering money, and she despised me for being poor, so she found someone else on the side. She-she even stole Yuqing’s dowry money! Yuqing’s in-laws immediately broke off the engagement and refused to have her as a daughter-in-law.”
I nodded and smiled. “And?”
Shen Jincheng said urgently, “I’m begging you, lend me some money so I can take Yuqing for plastic surgery. The child still needs to get married and have children in the future. My life is already over, but she’s still young.”
I refused without hesitation. “I don’t care.”
“Are you even human!”
Shen Jincheng pointed at my nose and cursed.
Suddenly, he stood up and rushed toward the window. “If you don’t give it to me, I’ll jump!”
He smiled maniacally. “If a life is lost in your home, let’s see how you continue being a movie star!”
Seeing this, the Bodyguard, Xiao Zhao, hurriedly tried to persuade him. “Sir, please calm down. Whatever it is, let’s sit down and talk it over.”
Shen Jincheng was beyond caring. “I have nothing to talk about with this cold-blooded, selfish woman. Xu Chunyan, one word: are you giving me the money or not?”
“No.”
I slowly stood up. “Shen Jincheng, you truly make me look down on you.”
Gritting his teeth, Shen Jincheng opened the window and swung one leg out. “For my daughter, I don’t care about anything else.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Are you really so sure that Shen Yuqing is your daughter?”
Shen Jincheng’s body jolted. “What do you mean?”
I took a videotape out of my suitcase and threw it on the floor. “I originally brought this back to West City for you. It no longer has any meaning to me.”
I said calmly, “Do you know why I treated Shen Yuqing as my own in my past life? I had several miscarriages and no children of my own. Seeing how much you doted on Shen Yuqing, do you think I never suspected anything?”
The color drained from Shen Jincheng’s face. “What… what exactly do you mean!”
“That’s right.”
I let out a long sigh. “Back then, seeing how much you spoiled Yuqing, I suspected the child was actually your illegitimate daughter from an affair, and that you had intentionally left her at our doorstep for me to find and raise. So, I took hair samples from both of you and secretly ran a DNA test. Unfortunately, there is no biological father-daughter relationship.”
Shen Jincheng roared at me like a madman, “You’re talking nonsense!”
I looked at him with pity. “The mother is definitely the mother, but the father isn’t necessarily you. If you don’t believe me, go test it yourself.”
Shen Jincheng looked as if he were about to faint. He leaned against the wall as he climbed down, gave me a deep, lingering look, and left with his head down.
I walked over and closed the window.
It was already spring, but a sudden gust of wind felt bone-chillingly cold.
Half a month later.
My trip to West City came to an end. Before boarding the plane, I bought a newspaper.
The recent headlines were all about a murder case involving a rural teacher.
It was said that after the teacher returned home, he found his wife trysting with an old flame. The honest man could take no more and committed murder with a knife… Blood was everywhere, leaving only a young daughter kneeling on the ground, crying out for “Daddy” and “Mommy.”
How pitiful. I wondered who she was really calling for.
I stared blankly at the newspaper and sighed.
Just then, Dylan approached and put his arm around me. “What are you thinking about?”
I leaned against him and gave a faint smile. “I was thinking that life is as beautiful as spring, and it shouldn’t be wasted. I’m thinking about how to eat well, drink well, and have fun after we get off the plane.”
“Alright, I’ll be right there with you.”
