Chapter 17
Chapter 17
I woke up early to get ready and dress up.
I gathered all my learning insights and study notes from the past six months, waiting with a heart full of trepidation.
Around noon, Sister Fang called to say that Lu Junrong had just returned from the set and would be in a meeting at 2:00 PM.
At 4:00 PM, he would have a twenty-minute coffee break.
I quickly packed my things and took a taxi to Lu Junrong’s company according to the address Sister Fang had given me.
It had been a long time since I’d seen Sister Fang. I rushed forward and gave her a big hug.
“Zhiyi, you’ve become even more beautiful.”
Sister Fang smiled as she looked me up and down. “And you’ve become more confident, too.”
Sister Fang led me to Lu Junrong’s office. “Ah Ron is in a meeting; it won’t be over for a while. Wait here for a bit. Would you like tea or coffee?”
Afraid that the nerves would make me need the restroom, I smiled and said, “No, thank you. I don’t need anything, Sister Fang.”
Sister Fang sat down to chat with me. “Don’t be nervous, you’re already very talented. I’ve asked friends from the three crews you worked with, and they all said you study hard and have a great personality.”
I asked softly, “Then, regarding Director Lu… what do you think he’s planning?”
Sister Fang laughed. “It should be fine. The artists the company signed this year aren’t as qualified as you in any category. Don’t worry.”
As we were talking, the door opened.
A particularly beautiful mixed-race little girl walked in. She looked to be about four years old, and her eyes bore a slight resemblance to Lu Junrong’s.
Following closely behind was a woman in her forties, carrying a water bottle and a backpack.
The little girl skipped around, looking for someone everywhere. “Where’s Daddy? Where is he?” she asked in a milky voice.
I looked at Sister Fang in surprise.
Sister Fang whispered, “That’s Ah Ron’s daughter, Joey, Lu Qiaoyi. She’s four this year. The woman with her is her nanny, Aunt Lan.”
I was even more shocked. “Director Lu is married?”
Sister Fang shook her head, covering her mouth as she lowered her voice. “Joey’s mother is British. She loved Ah Ron very much, but the word ‘marriage’ doesn’t exist in Ah Ron’s dictionary. They broke up three years ago. She’s married to a wealthy man now and is doing very well.”
Stunned by this bombshell, my jaw dropped. I nudged Sister Fang with my elbow. “How do you dare tell me something so private about Director Lu?”
Sister Fang let out a chuckle. “How is this private? A few years ago, the front pages of the gossip tabloids were filled with our playboy Lu Junrong’s love affairs. You just don’t pay attention to those things, so you didn’t know.”
Just then, Lu Qiaoyi ran up to me.
The little girl rested her arms against my legs, looking up at me with wide eyes.
I couldn’t help but marvel at how she looked like a little porcelain doll. She was wearing a lace dress, her skin was flawless, her features were exquisite, and her eyelashes were thick and long.
I couldn’t resist leaning down to gently stroke the little girl’s hair.
“Who are you?” Lu Qiaoyi smiled sweetly. “You’re so pretty, Auntie. Are you Daddy’s girlfriend?”
I froze. For such a young child to understand the concept of a girlfriend, she had either seen many of them or heard about them often.
I was just about to say no.
To my surprise, Lu Qiaoyi suddenly pouted, stood on her tiptoes, and slapped me with her small hand.
“I hate you! Bad woman!”
